SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Starting the week tied for fourth place in the Big West standings, the Cal Poly women's basketball team heads back out on the road for a pair of conference matchups set for Friday and Saturday, visiting Cal State Fullerton in a back-to-back opportunity.
Each game Feb. 12-13 is scheduled for a 4 p.m. tip-off in Titan Gym.
Although fans are not permitted to attend at this time, both matchups will be broadcast on BigWest.TV for free, with all live video and radio links on the GoPoly.com schedule page. The Mustangs (8-6 overall; 4-4 BWC) are coming off a home split against Hawai'i.
ELLIS CONTINUES TO RANK AMONG NATIONAL LEADERS: Abbey Ellis now not only ranks 61st around the country in scoring by averaging a league-leading 18.7 points; she is also No. 27 nationally in free-throw percentage (at .879), plus No. 25 across the NCAA in steals per game (2.8) and 35th in the nation for 3-point accuracy (.426).
The sophomore point guard out of Australia netted 39 points in the 73-63 road win over San Diego State on Dec. 21, the most by a Mustang since Jan. 4, 2018. The showing helped her repeat as Big West Player of the Week for Dec. 29, picking up her third career conference accolade. Shortly afterward, on New Year's Day she had a 31-point outing at UC San Diego, fueled by knocking down eight 3-pointers. Her eight triples launched Cal Poly to a single-game program record for made 3s, connecting on 17 of 33 looks from behind the arc on the way to a 90-68 win.
CAMPISANO ALSO CLIMBING NCAA, SCHOOL HISTORY LEADERBOARDS: Cal Poly's Sierra Campisano — selected as Big West Player of the Week on Dec. 14 (as well as College Sports Madness' BWC MVP for Dec. 21) — also finds herself among the national leaders in a handful of statistical categories. Now averaging a conference-leading 9.3 boards per game, the senior forward from San Diego ranks No. 59 in the country in rebounding.
Alongside her rebounding average, Campisano, a 2020 all-conference first-teamer, currently ranks second throughout the league in scoring (via 16.7 points per game), No. 2 in blocks per game (1.2) and 10th in 3-point percentage (.385).
A former transfer from Oregon, she also now ranks No. 30 in school history for career scoring, with 733 points as a Mustang, only 70 points away from entering the Top 25 all-time.
A LOOK AT CAL ST. FULLERTON: Amiee Book averages a team-leading 14.9 points for the Titans (1-13 / 0-10 BWC).
CSF also is led by one of the league's leading post presences in Joy Krupa, who's No. 3 around the Big West in blocked shots per game (1.2) and also fourth in rebounding (8.0).
Fullerton's Anniken Frey is among the conference's top perimeter shooters, knocking down 47.9 percent of her 3-point attempts on the year. The Mustangs hold a 32-23 advantage in the all-time rivalry between the two programs, although the Titans took the most recent encounter, 67-60 last February.
VICK, BROWN AND HOLT JOIN TOP-5 CONFERENCE LEADERS: Mustang redshirt sophomore guard Maddie Vick and Cal Poly senior forward Kirsty Brown also start this week both ranked within the Top 5 across a couple conference leaderboards for the duration of 2020-21.
Vick's assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.8 presently ranks fourth throughout the league (while she's also No. 12 in the Big West for assists per game, with 2.8). Brown, meanwhile, currently ranks fourth in the conference in offensive rebounding, averaging 2.5 extra possessions per game. Additionally — specific to in-conference play — senior guard Malia Holt has moved up to No. 3 in the Big West for assist-to-turnover ratio, at a 2.2 mark since league action commenced.
