
Mustangs See Second Half Lead Slip Away in Loss to Long Beach State

LONG BEACH – Vanessa McManus and Charish Thompson combined for 30 points, but Cal Poly women’s basketball saw its double digit second half lead slip away in a 67-57 road loss to Long Beach State Thursday.
McManus and Thompson each finished with 15 points to lead the Mustangs. Alana Goosby made her return to the lineup and added nine points, six rebounds and six assists.
After getting down 10-0 to start the game, Cal Poly had a very strong first half from that point. The Mustangs outscored Long Beach State18-7 in the second quarter and led by six at halftime.
Cal Poly extended its lead in the third quarter, going up as much as 12 with five minutes left in the quarter. However, the Mustangs struggled to score in the fourth quarter, getting outscored 26-8. That included a 17-2 run over the final five minutes and 13-0 the final three minutes.
Cal Poly returns home to face UC San Diego Saturday at 2 p.m. inside Mott Athletics Center.
