SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Three Mustangs scored in double figures, but the Cal Poly women’s basketball dropped its home finale Thursday to UC Irvine, 85-65.
Freshman Charish Thompson led Cal Poly with 15 points and six rebounds. Sophomores Vanessa McManus and Nora Perez each added 11 points for the Mustangs.
On the flip side, the Anteaters were led by Hunter Hernandez’s 41 points which tied a UC Irvine school record. She was 11-22 from the field and 16-18 from the free throw line. As a team, UC Irvine shot 44 percent from the field and was 35-48 from the free throw line.
Cal Poly bounced back from a rough first quarter offensively in which they started 1-12 from the field. After trailing by 13 heading into the second, the Mustangs picked it up offensively, scoring 20 points in the second and trailed by 16 at halftime.
That lead would pretty much hold for UC Irvine in the second half as the Anteaters outscored the Mustangs by two in both the third and fourth quarters.
Cal Poly will hit the road for its final game of the season Saturday against Cal State Bakersfield. Tip time from the Icardo Center is set for 2 p.m.
