
Cal Poly Women’s Basketball Adds Seven New Players to 2026-27 Roster

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Cal Poly women’s basketball has had a busy offseason as the Mustangs have completed their additions to the 2026-27 roster by signing seven new players.
The new additions are a mixture of high school recruits as well as junior college and Division I transfers. For head coach Shanele Stires, who is heading into her fifth season at the helm of the Mustangs, this will make it 15 players on next year’s roster.
The signees include guard Sumer Lee from Depaul University, Mecca Alexander from San Jose State, Bianca Slone Cathedral Catholic High School, Maddy Tauro from Cal State Fullerton, Lena Most from Garfield High School, Dessi Ulmer from Colby Community College, and Ysabella Von Seipler from University of San Diego.

Sumer Lee
Guard
Toronto, Ontario, Canada / Depaul University
Lee comes to Cal Poly after playing three years at Depaul University in Chicago. There, she played in 74 career games, starting 30. As a sophomore, she was second on the team in assists and led the team in charges taken on the defensive end.
Originally from Toronto, she represented Canada in both the U16 Women’s National Team and U17 Women’s National Team. In high school, she was named the Ontario Basketball Association (OSBA) Defensive Player of the Year her senior season, averaging 16.1 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists & 3 steals in the 2022-23 season.
Coach Stires quote: “Sumer is a natural born leader, and she reflects every bit of that when she is on the floor. Sumer brings a wealth of experience in her time in the Big East, that we will be leaning into a great deal at Cal Poly. Her ability to control pace and tempo and distribute the ball will have Mustang fans enjoying her floor game. Sumer is an extremely hard worker, passionate and determined to leave her mark on our program. We are expecting great things from this young lady.”
Mecca Alexander
Guard
Antioch, CA / San Jose State
Alexander comes to Cal Poly after spending the last two years at San Jose State. In those two years, she played in 47 games with six starts. She earned Academic All-Mountain West honors.
She attended Cornerstone Christian School in Antioch, Calif. where she scored more than 2,000 career points and was a three year starter and two year captain. She was a Phenom American Top 100 Camp MVP, Two-time SSBL League MVP, and Two-time SSBL All-League First Team (2021-22).
Coach Stires quote: “Mecca is a dynamic ball handler and will bring added dimension and experience to our backcourt. She is not only a high character young lady, but she is also a gym rat. She is constantly working at her craft and developing her game. She will be an incredible teammate and will add excitement to our program with her skill set.”
Bianca Slone
Forward
San Diego, CA/Cathedral Catholic HS
Slone comes to Cal Poly from Cathedral Catholic High School in San Diego. There, she played varsity for all four years and was a four time First Team All-League honoree. She was also named All-State three times and was a McDonalds All-American nominee.
A 6-2 forward, Slone scored over 1,400 points, grabbed over 800 rebounds, blocked over 200 shots, had nearly 200 assists, and 175 steals in her high school career.
Coach Stires quote: “Bianca is a multi-dimensional big that has guard skills, three level scoring, stretching the court, attacking off the bounce, rebounding and running the floor, as well as defensive intensity, she comes from a very athletic family and was highly touted out of high school. Coach Johnson on our staff did a tremendous job of creating a lasting relationship and we were fortunate that she waited until the late signing period. Making her a Mustang was a no-brainer. We are blessed to have her and excited to see what kind of legacy Bianca leaves at Poly.”
Maddy Tauro
Guard
Woodland Hills, CA/Cal State Fullerton
Stires and Tauro were already familiar with each other with Tauro having spent the last two seasons playing in the Big West at Cal State Fullerton. Last season with the Titans, she started 22 games and was sixth in the Big West in steals at 2.4 per game. She averaged 10 points per game, which was third on the team.
The 5-8 guard played her high school ball at Calabasas High School in southern California. There, she played varsity all four years and was a four time First Team All-League selection and team MVP. For her high school career, she averaged 14.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.5 steals, and 3.5 assists per game.
Coach Stires quote: “Maddy is a tireless worker and loves to be in the gym working on her game. She is a proven three-level scorer in the Big West and will not only add experience and proven scoring ability, but she is also an elite defender. Her ability to cause havoc in passing lanes, anticipation and her ability to disrupt ball handlers with her on the ball pressure and hand eye coordination. Given her proven ability to play on both ends of the floor, we are expecting big things from Maddy in a Mustang uniform. Our fan base will love her and we are thrilled to have her join the family.”
Lena Most
Guard
Nyack, NY/Garfield HS
Most comes to Cal Poly out of high school from Garfield High School in Seattle. However, she hails originally from Nyack, NY. The 5-5 Most played four years of high school basketball and was a Second Team All-State honoree. She also played at San Jose Prep in Jacksonville, FL where she averaged 14 points, 8.0 assists, 5.8 steals, and 5.2 rebounds per game.
Coach Stires quote: “Lena brings an energy and skill set that will electrify our fan base. She is as skilled a ball handler and passer that I have seen in my time as a coach at the collegiate level. She is also an elite on ball defender that plays the game with passion, energy and excitement. She makes everyone around her better and will add so much dimension to our backcourt. Lena caught my eye during the recruiting process, and I knew we had to get her into a Mustang uniform. Get ready to get excited for Lena Most.”
Dessi Ulmer
Forward
Fountain, CO/Colby Community College
Ulmer comes to Cal Poly after spending the last two years at Colby Community College in Kansas. In her two years there, she averaged 11.8 points and 7.1 rebounds. She was named All-Conference twice and her team MVP this past year.
The 6-0 Ulmer is originally from Fountain, CO where she played high school basketball at Fort Carson High School. There, she was a two-time All-Conference honoree and as a senior averaged 16.4 points and 8.8 rebounds per game.
Coach Stires quote: “Dessi gives us experience, tenacity and versatility from the post position. Her leadership and maturity bring the intangibles, her interior physicality, finesse jump shooting and rebounding bring the dimension that will impact our team and program on the court and in the locker room. We are anticipating immediate impact from Dessi.”
Ysabella Von Seipler
Guard
Woodstock, IL/University of San Diego
The sharp shooting Von Seipler comes to Cal Poly after spending her freshman season at the University of San Diego this past year. With the Toreros, she appeared in 17 games and averaged 2.6 points and 1.6 rebounds per game. She shot 47 percent from both the field and three point range.
Von Seipler played high school basketball at Del Oro High School in Loomis, Calif. up near Sacramento. In four years of varsity, she was a two-time All-League selection and was the school’s first basketball player to lead the team in points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, field goal percentage and three point percentage. As a senior, she averaged 15.2 points, 7.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 3.3 steals per game.

She is passionate, driven and an incredible teammate. Mustang fans will love her ability to shoot the ball from three. Our program got a whole lot better with the addition of Ysabella.”
