The Mustangs fell in their home opener to No. 10 Louisville, 32-72, which was the highest-ranked women's basketball opponent to play Mott. They then opened their annual Holiday Beach Classic with a 63-51 win over St. Thomas. A strong second half surge by Cal Poly, spearheaded by a 35-7 run, led the Mustangs to the win over the Tommies. Junior guard Maddie Vick led Cal Poly with 10 points and six assists as the Mustangs had five players score at least six points. Cal Poly fell the next day to Montana State, 55-67. Vick set a career-high with 19 points and Kirsty Brown nearly recorded a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds. However, the Mustangs shot just 1-16 from three in the loss. Through the first four games of the season, Vick leads the team in scoring at 10.3 points per game. Brown and junior guard Maddie Willett are tied for second at 7.3 points per game. Nevada comes into Thursday's game with a record of 3-3 and have won their last two games. Last week at their own tournament, the Wolfpack went 1-2, losing to Drake before picking up wins over Idaho and San Francisco. Nevada has three players averaging double figures, led by senior guard Da'Ja Hamilton's 11.8 points per game. As a team, they rank sixth in the nation in free throw percentage at 82.1. Denver will play UC Santa Barbara before facing the Mustangs Saturday. The Pioneers head into the week with a 2-4 record and are coming off going 1-1 last week their own tournament in which they beat Texas A&M Corpus Christi before falling to Wyoming. Junior guard Meghan Boyd leads Denver in scoring so far this year at 10.9 points per game. The record is 124 and she currently sits at 106. Returning Mustangs: The Mustangs return a total of eight players from last season. Those include junior guard Maddie Willett who started 23 of 24 games last year and was third on the team in scoring at 7.8 points per game and had seven games in which she scored double figures.
