Cal Poly Drops Friday Pair to Open 2026

SACRAMENTO / DAVIS – Righthander Kaylee Davis limited Colorado State to three hits during her Friday morning collegiate debut, but the Rams scratched out the decisive run in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Cal Poly softball program opened the 2026 season and the NorCal Kickoff with a 1-0 setback. The Mustangs also fell in Friday’s second matchup to San Diego, 5-0.
During Friday’s season opener against Colorado State (hosted by Sacramento State), Davis (0-1) took a one-hit shutout into the sixth inning before Rams first baseman Jailey Wilson singled with one down. Four pitches later, Colorado State third baseman Kyra Smith doubled to left center to bring around Wilson for the game’s only run. N game No. 2
Held hitless Friday morning by Colorado State starting lefthander Reagan Wick (1-0), Cal Poly’s best opportunity to break through came in the top of the sixth after sophomore designated player JJ Pina drew a full-count, leadoff walk. Freshman pinch runner Karina Choi stole second and reached third through freshman shortstop Madi Bohannon’s sacrifice bunt.
Wick, however, struck out Cal Poly senior left fielder Kiara Blanched before freshman first baseman Myleigh Cooper lined out to end the threat.
During Friday’s second afternoon matchup versus San Diego (hosted by UC Davis), Cal Poly starting junior righthander Ally Robbins (0-1) retired San Diego in order during the top of the first before the Toreroes surged ahead 3-0 in the second through a three-run homer by catcher Janae Combs.
San Diego then added single runs in the third and fifth innings to complete the scoring.
Offensively, Cal Poly produced four hits, but advanced just one baserunner as far as third. Cooper enjoyed two hits for the Mustangs, who placed two on base in the fourth before Pina hit into an inning-ending double play.
Cal Poly continues NorCal Kickoff action on Saturday, Feb. 7 against Saint Mary’s (9:30 a.m.) and at Sacramento State (2:30 p.m.).
