Mustangs Drop Sunday Series Finale to Cal State Fullerton
3/23/2025 2:32:00 PM | Softball
SAN LUIS OBISPO – Senior first baseman Malia Mah and freshman designated player Natalie Camarena (above) each produced two-hit efforts for the Cal Poly softball program Sunday afternoon, but a 10-run third inning by Cal State Fullerton assisted the visiting Titans to a 12-0, five-inning decision at Bob Janssen Field.
Limited to a solitary single through the initial two innings, Cal State Fullerton broke open Sunday's matchup with its 10-run third highlighted by first baseman Ava Arce's two-run base hit to left center and a bases-clearing triple off the bat of pinch hitter Jenna Stevens.
Offensively, Cal Poly placed a runner on with one down during both the second and third before twice hitting into inning-ending double plays (the fifth and sixth such occurrences by the Mustangs during the three-game series).
Cal Poly loaded the bases with one down during the bottom half of the fifth through singles from Camarena, junior third baseman Mylina Garza and Mah. Cal State Fullerton starting righthander Trisha McCleskey (8-5), however, struck out freshman pinch hitter Maya Venegas and induced a game-ending flyout from freshman right fielder Maddy Bermudez.
Cal Poly plays its next six on the road, starting Tuesday, March 25 with a 4 p.m. matchup at Washington before visiting Seattle for a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Wednesday, March 26.
