CHENEY, Wash. — Cal Poly sophomore guard Vanessa McManus notched her third game of the season scoring over 20 points, but offensive struggles caused the Mustang women’s basketball team to fall Monday night on the road at Eastern Washington, 78-67.
McManus finished with a game-high 22 points to go along with five rebounds. She has now scored in double figures in all four games this season for the Mustangs (1-3). Freshman forward Charish Thompson, coming off a 29 point game two days ago, finished with 14 points. Redshirt sophomore guard Jordan Billing added a career-high 10 points.
Both teams struggled offensively in the first quarter, with neither team shooting better than 33 percent. A 22-percent first half field goal percentage saw Cal Poly trailing 30-23 at halftime.
In the second half, the Mustangs trailed by as many as 15 twice, once in the third and once in the fourth. Down 70-55 with four minutes left in the game, a 10-0 run by Cal Poly over the next three minutes saw them down by just five with 45 seconds left.
However, time ran out on the Mustangs as the Eagles finished the game on a 6-0 run.
Cal Poly will now return home for three straight games, the first of which is Friday, Nov. 21 at 6 p.m. against Southern Utah.
