SAN LUIS OBISPO – Enjoying its lengthiest winning streak in five years, the Cal Poly softball program plays its final non-conference game of the regular season and opens a four-game home stand when hosting Fresno State at Bob Janssen Field on Tuesday, April 19 at 3:30 p.m.
Daniel Gillman provides the play-by-play of Tuesday's matchup for GoPoly.com HERE with live stats available HERE.
Behind two grand slams and a program record eight RBI from senior shortstop Maddie Amos and a complete-game, six-strikeout performance from freshman righthander Paige Maier, Cal Poly (14-21, 9-6) pushed its winning streak to eight straight games and completed its second successive Big West Conference road series sweep with a 14-2, five-inning victory at CSU Bakersfield (April 16).
Cal Poly's current eight-game winning streak is the program's lengthiest since winning nine consecutive from March 12-25, 2017.
Individually, Cal Poly features the Big West's top two hitters as Amos leads all conference players with a .405 (47-for-116) batting average and freshman left fielder Jessica Clements sits right behind at .400 (46-for-115).
Cal Poly and Fresno State (12-30, 5-10 Mountain West) last met on March 5 at the Judi Garman Classic (Fullerton, Calif.) as the Mustangs snapped a five-game slide against the Bulldogs with a 5-2 victory. Fresno State, which leads the all-time series, 46-15, is making its first trip to Cal Poly since splitting a March 25, 2013 doubleheader.
Having climbed to third place in the Big West standings alongside Hawai'i (15-15, 9-6), Cal Poly resumes conference play when hosting conference co-leader Long Beach State (22-17, 12-3) for a three-game, April 23-24 set. Action gets underway with a 1 p.m. doulbheader on Saturday, April 23.
