Cal Poly Returns to ESPNU, Hosting Big West Leader Cal State Fullerton April 30-May 1

SAN LUIS OBISPO – The Cal Poly softball program hosts an ESPNU broadcasted game from Bob Janssen Field for the first time in six seasons when facing Big West Conference leader Cal State Fullerton for a three-game, April 30-May 1 series. The series opens with a 5 p.m. matchup on Friday, April 30 while the opening game of the Saturday, May 1 doubleheader will be broadcast on ESPNU, beginning at 2 p.m. Cal Poly (10-16, 4-11), which snapped second place Long Beach State's 11-game winning streak with a 5-1, series-opening win (April 24), ranks second among Big West programs for batting average (.295), slugging percentage (.411) and runs (114). Winners of 22 of its last 24 games and leading Long Beach State (22-6, 16-2) atop the Big West standings by one-and-a-half games, Cal State Fullerton (31-12, 15-0) features a .319 team batting average and 2.76 staff ERA.

CAL POLY VERSUS CAL STATE FULLERTON: Swept at Cal State Fullerton in 2019 and with just one win in three attempts at home in 2018, Cal Poly seeks its first series victory against the Titans since prevailing twice on the road in 2017. Cal State Fullerton, however, has won four of the last five series dating to 2015 and leads the all-time series, 49-29.
CLOSE, BUT: Including a 1-0 loss and 6-5 win to close the April 9-10 series against Hawai'i, 12 of Cal Poly's 26 games this season – 46 percent – have been decided by one run with the Mustangs holding a 4-8 record in those decisions.
MARTIN PLACING FINISHING TOUCHES ON STANDOUT CAREER: Hitting .696 (16-for-23) during Cal Poly's last six games, senior first baseman Hailey Martin ranks third among Big West hitters with a .423 (33-for-78) batting average, a .495 on-base percentage and nine doubles and sixth with a .603 slugging percentage while also leading Cal Poly with 33 hits and 10 multi-hit games. Named Louisville Slugger/NFCA National Player of the Week (April 13) after batting .923 (12-for-13) during Cal Poly's four-game home series against Hawai'i (April 9-10), Martin enters the Cal State Fullerton series having batted safely in 13 successive games. A .317 (177-for-559) career hitter, Martin remains fifth in program history with 38 doubles, seventh with 98 RBI and 13th with 177 hits, 53 walks and 237 total bases. A starter in 193 of a possible 209 of Cal Poly's games since her 2017 freshman season – including all 26 this year – Martin is a .982 career fielder with just 23 errors in 1,301 total career chances.
CENTER (FIELDER) OF SUCCESS: Having never batted higher than .262 during her previous three seasons, senior center fielder Noellah Ramos (above) takes a .352 (31-for-88) mark into Cal Poly's April 30-May 1 series against Cal State Fullerton. Ranked second in Cal Poly's lineup with 31 hits, 17 runs and nine multi-hit games – including three-hit efforts versus Saint Mary's (March 6) and at UC Riverside (March 27) – Ramos has hit safely in 20 of 26 outings. Ramos has also struck out just seven times in 88 at-bats this year. A starter in 146 of 150 appearances for Cal Poly since her 2018 freshman season, Ramos is a .968 career fielder.
AMOS'S EXCEPTIONAL SEASON: A career .289 (70-for-242) batter after ranking fourth in Cal Poly's lineup with a .326 (29-for-89) batting average, junior infielder Maddie Amos co-leads the Mustangs with seven multi-RBI games. Also eighth among Big West hitters with four home runs and 10th with 50 total bases, Amos has hit safely in 21 of Cal Poly's 26 games.
AMOS'S CAREER YEAR: Hitting 91 points higher than her previous career best for batting average, junior right fielder Lily Amos's .400 (18-for-45) mark remains second in Cal Poly's lineup. Owner of one of Cal Poly's two four-hit games this season after finishing 4-for-4 during the series opener at Long Beach State (April 24), Amos takes a .298 (62-for-208) career batting average into the program's April 30-May 1 series against Cal State Fullerton.

First pitch for the doubleheader shifted to 2 p.m. (from 1 p.m.) for the matchup, which marks Cal Poly's first nationally-televised matchup since hosting Long Beach State on ESPNU on May 2, 2015.
