Cal Poly Travels to UC Riverside for Three-Game, March 27-28 Series

SAN LUIS OBISPO – The Cal Poly softball program plays its first Big West Conference road series of the season and opens a six-game road trip when visiting UC Riverside for a Saturday, March 27 doubleheader and Sunday, March 28 single matchup.

First pitch is 1 p.m. on Saturday and 12 noon on Sunday for Cal Poly (7-6, 2-1), which opened Big West Conference play at home inside Bob Janssen Field by winning twice against CSUN (March 20-21). Early, the Mustangs trail joint Big West-leading Cal State Fullerton (18-11, 3-0) and Long Beach State (7-4, 3-0) by just one game in the conference standings.
UC Riverside (1-11, 0-3), meanwhile, was swept at Long Beach State to start Big West play. UC Riverside's lone victory this season was a 7-4 win versus California Baptist (March 14).
Cal Poly's last series victory against the Highlanders was a three-game sweep to close the 2016 season. The Mustangs, however, last won a series at UC Riverside in 2011. Dating to the first meeting between to the two sides on April 16, 1976, Cal Poly leads the all-time series, 94-37.
Individually, senior righthander Shelby Jeffries – the reigning Big West Pitcher of the Week honoree after earning both of Cal Poly's series victories against CSUN – ranks third among conference players with a 1.24 ERA. Freshman righthander Bailey Doherty remains fourth in the Big West with a 1.24 ERA while junior lefthander Krystyna Allman is eighth (2.46). Cal Poly's staff 2.36 ERA is second among Big West programs.
At the plate, five of Cal Poly's regular starters are batting above .300, topped by senior center fielder Noellah Ramos with a .381 (16-for-42) mark. Junior infielder Maddie Amos follows with a .368 (14-for-38) batting average while Jeffries is hitting .359 (14-for-39). Sophomore shortstop Xiara Diaz adds a .346 (9-for-26) mark while sophomore right fielder Sydney Frankenberger is hitting .304 (14-for-46).
Following the UC Riverside series, Cal Poly visits UC Santa Barbara for a three-game, April 2-3 set.
