MUSTANGS DIAMOND WEEKLY SERIES PROGRAM
SAN LUIS OBISPO – The Cal Poly softball program opens its 24th season of Big West Conference play and closes a 10-game home stand when welcoming CSUN for a Saturday, March 20 doubleheader and Sunday, March 21 single matchup. First pitch both afternoons is 1 p.m.
Zachary Anderson-Yoxsimer will provide play-by-play of the three-game series via GoPoly.com HERE. Live stats and streaming video of all three series games will also be available through GoPoly.com HERE.
Cal Poly (5-5) started its current 10-game home stand by sweeping a three-game set from Saint Mary's (March 6). The Mustangs then split a Friday, March 12 doubleheader versus Pacific before falling twice versus Stanford on Sunday, March 14.
The lone Big West program yet to play, CSUN elected for a Big West-only schedule in 2021.
This season's Big West schedule was expanded from 21 games in 2019 (the 2020 conference schedule was cancelled due to the COVID pandemic) to 27 games following the offseason additions of CSU Bakersfield (joining from the Western Athletic Conference) and UC San Diego (making its Division I debut). CSU Bakersfield opted away from playing a 2021 schedule, dropping this season's conference game total to 24.
Cal Poly last faced CSUN in 2019, dropping two of three series games at Matador Diamond. CSUN's last visit to Cal Poly resulted in a three-game Mustang sweep in 2018.
Individually, Cal Poly freshman righthander Bailey Doherty (3-2) – who tossed a 12-strikeout no-hitter in Cal Poly's 2-0 win against Boise State (Feb. 26) and added 10 more strikeouts in a 9-1 victory against Saint Mary's (March 6) – leads all Big West pitchers in strikeouts per seven innings (9.1) while ranking second in ERA (1.39), third in total strikeouts (46) and sixth innings pitched (35.1). She's also averaging 1.3 strikeouts per inning and limiting opposing hitters to a .172 batting average.
Junior righthander Krystyna Allman, who improved to 2-2 during Cal Poly's 3-2 win against Pacific (March 12), is averaging 5.4 strikeouts per seven innings.
At the plate, Cal Poly's top hitter – senior center fielder Noellah Ramos (above) – ranks third among Big West players with a .400 (12-for-30) batting average.
Following this weekend's action against CSUN, Cal Poly resumes Big West play with three-game series at UC Riverside (March 27-28) and at UC Santa Barbara (April 2-3).
