MUSTANGS DIAMOND WEEKLY GAME PROGRAM
SAN LUIS OBISPO – The Cal Poly softball program hosts Pacific (Friday, March 12) for the first time in eight seasons and welcomes Stanford (Sunday, March 14) for the first time since 2001 when continuing a 10-game home stand and closing the non-conference portion of its schedule this week at Bob Janssen Field.
First pitch each afternoon is 1 p.m. for Cal Poly (4-2), which swept a three-game, March 6-7 series from Saint Mary's in the program's first home games since 2019. Live stats and streaming video of both doubleheaders will be available via GoPoly.com HERE.
Both of Cal Poly's two defeats this season have been by one-run margins. Meanwhile, Cal Poly produced a pair of run-rule victories in sweeping Saint Mary's – the first of which, a 9-1, six-inning decision, marked Mustang head coach Jenny Condon's 400th career win.
Pacific (6-7), which handed San Jose State a 5-1 road defeat on Wednesday, last visited Cal Poly for an April 6-7, 2013 series, taking two of three games from the Mustangs during the program's final season as a Big West Conference member. Cal Poly has won the last three meetings with Pacific, including a 7-0 decision on May 16, 2017 in Stockton, Calif., to open the inaugural National Invitational Softball Championship postseason tournament.
Stanford (11-3) last visited Cal Poly on April 16, 2001 and swept a doubleheader from the Mustangs during the program's first season at Bob Janssen Field. The Cardinal, who topped Cal Poly in the last meeting between the two sides in 2019, host Saint Mary's for a Thursday, March 11 pair of games. Stanford received six votes in the March 9 edition of the USA Today/Top 25 coaches poll, finishing 52 points shy of No. 25 Clemson.
Individually, Cal Poly freshman righthander Bailey Doherty (3-1) – who tossed a 12-strikeout no-hitter in Cal Poly's 2-0 win against Boise State (Feb. 26) – leads all Big West pitchers in strikeouts per seven innings (10.1) while ranking third in total strikeouts (41), wins and ERA (1.73) and sixth in innings pitched (28.1). She also struck out 10 Saint Mary's hitters in Cal Poly's 9-1, series-opening win (March 6).
Offensively, Cal Poly features two of the Big West's top five hitters in senior center fielder Noellah Ramos (.500) and sophomore right fielder Sydney Frankenberger (.455).
Cal Poly concludes its 10-game home stand and opens Big West Conference play when hosting CSUN for a three-game, March 20-21 series.
