SAN LUIS OBISPO – The Cal Poly softball team’s last Big West road series of 2026 marks the program’s final trip to Hawai’i as a conference opponent as the Mustangs visit the Rainbow Wahine for a Friday, April 24 doubleheader (4:30 p.m. PT) and Saturday, April 25 solo matchup (2 p.m. PT). Cal Poly (10-30, 4-17) enters the week in ninth place in the Big West standings and three games behind UC San Diego (18-25, 7-14) and CSUN (12-28, 7-14) for the final spot at the May 6-9 Big West Championship. Winners of six of its last seven and 14-4 at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium this spring, Hawai’i (23-18, 15-6) shares third place in the standings alongside Long Beach State. Joining the Big West ahead of the 2013 season, Hawai’i will depart for the Mountain West Conference this summer.
CAL POLY VERSUS HAWAI’I: After taking two of three matchups at Cal Poly last spring, Hawai'i leads the all-time series, 24-16, dating to the first matchup on Feb. 24, 1995. The two programs split a pair of games at Hawai’i in 2024 (the third matchup was cancelled due to rain) while Cal Poly swept the Rainbow Wahine on the road in 2022.
SUPER COOPER: Batting .457 (16-for-35) during Cal Poly’s last 16 games, freshman first baseman Myleigh Cooper now ranks seventh among Big West players with a team leading .393 (46-for-117) mark. Also ninth in the Big West with nine doubles and 12th with 46 hits, Cooper continues to lead Cal Poly with 61 total bases, a .521 slugging percentage and 15 multi-hit games while batting .413 (26-for-43) in conference play. Having hit safely in 14 of Cal Poly’s last 16 outings, Cooper enters Friday’s doubleheader at Hawai’i also having reached in 10 straight.
ALLEN ADDS FRESHMAN PUNCH: Cal Poly’s top two hitters remain freshmen with shortstop Leilani Allen (right) second in the lineup behind Myleigh Cooper with a .343 (37-for-108) batting average. Having hit safely in 14 of Cal Poly’s past 15 matchups and .408 (20-for-49) since March 21, Allen is also second in the lineup with 35 hits while producing seven multi-hit outings. Entering Friday’s doubleheader at Hawai’i, Allen ranks as the 14th toughest hitter to strike out in NCAA Division I softball, fanned just once every 36.0 at-bats and only three times all season.

THE BYRD FLIES HIGH: A .188 career hitter entering her junior season, outfielder A’Niyla Byrd ranks third in Cal Poly’s lineup with a .310 (27-for-87) mark after batting .375 (15-for-40) during the past 13 games. Having produced more than half of her season hit total – and three, three-hit games – since March 22, Byrd is second in the lineup with eight multi-hit outings this spring.
CHOI TAKES OVER STEALS RECORD: It took Karina Choi just 34 games to break the 21-year-old Cal Poly single season mark for stolen bases with the freshman swiping her record-breaking 19th bag April 12 at UC San Diego. Thrown out just once in 20 steal attempts this spring, Choi – ranked second among Big West baserunners and 55th among Division I players – broke the mark previously set by NFCA All-America selection Lisa Modglin in 2005.
BRENNAN IN THE CIRCLE: Securing just one victory in 19 appearances last season, sophomore righthander Bree Brennan enters the April 24-25 Hawai’i series having earned six of Cal Poly’s 10 victories to rank 11th among conference pitchers. Brennan also sits 13th with 37 strikeouts after registering a career high seven versus Kansas City (Feb. 27) and ranks second on Cal Poly’s staff with 22 appearances and 75.2 innings pitched.
CONDON ON THE VERGE OF MORE HISTORY: The first and only female head coach in Big West history to coach 1,000 games at a member program in any sport, 22nd-year Cal Poly head coach Jenny Condon requires just four more victories to become the sixth coach in conference history to reach 500 career wins. The winningest female head coach in university history, Condon ranks sixth in Big West history with both 496 total victories and 214 conference wins. A four-time Big West Coach of the Year honoree, Condon has accounted for 41 percent of the program’s 1,206 all-time victories.
LOOKING AHEAD (MAY 1-2): Cal Poly closes the 2026 regular season by hosting UC Davis for a Friday, May 1 doubleheader and Saturday, May 2 solo matchup.
