BOISE, Idaho — Cal Poly men's tennis wrapped up its penultimate non-conference week Friday afternoon, falling 4-1 to No. 61 Boise State at the Appleton Tennis Center.
The Mustangs, now 8-5 overall, have one more week of non-conference action before Big West play begins, with ranked matchups looming against Denver on March 23 and Santa Clara on March 25.
Boise State (13-5) claimed matches on courts one and three to secure the early doubles point advantage. The tandem of Jack Cross and Sean Kamyshev battled but ultimately fell 6-0 while Luc Hoeijmans and Raz Haviv were left unfinished in their match when the Broncos edged Jovan Lubbe and Leo Matthysen 6-4 at the top spot.
In singles, the Mustangs showed resilience but couldn't overcome the early deficit. Senior Aaron Eliscu continued his stellar play, picking up his co-leading eighth singles victory of the season with a 7-5, 7-5 triumph at court six.
Jovan Lubbe pushed his win streak to three matches before Friday's contest was halted. The South African was locked in a battle at court two, trailing 4-6, 3-4 when play was abandoned. Lubbe remains 6-5 on the season.
Luc Hoeijmans’ contest at court one went unfinished. The transfer was down 5-7, 3-5 when the team outcome was decided. Hoeijmans sits at 8-3 overall and co-leads the team for wins.
Jack Cross dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision at court four, while Raz Haviv couldn't solve his matchup at court three, losing 6-3, 6-4. Sean Kamyshev rounded out the singles action with a 6-2, 6-3 loss at court five.
The Mustangs will look to build momentum against Montana State in Boise before some ranked competition, hosting No. 73 Denver on March 23 before traveling to No. 38 Santa Clara on March 25.
