Mustangs Run-Ruled by Cal State Bakersfield in Sunday Series Finale
4/6/2025 3:43:00 PM | Softball
SAN LUIS OBISPO – A second-inning grand slam from Cal State Bakersfield shortstop Marianna Narvaiz provided the Roadrunners the only lead of Sunday afternoon's series finale as the Cal Poly softball program fell in five innings, 11-2.
Stranding a baserunner to close the top of the first, Cal State Bakersfield solidified a 4-0 lead in the second through Narvaiz's grand slam to left center field.
Cal Poly itself left solo baserunners on to complete both the first and second innings before taking a run back during the third as shortstop Sienna Erskine (above) plated right fielder Maddy Bermudez with a one-out sacrifice fly.
The Roadrunners, however, took the run back in the fourth as right fielder Maya Molina-Villareal followed Narvaiz's leadoff triple with a run-scoring single. Cal State Bakersfield followed with three more runs during the inning and an additional three in the fifth.
With Cal Poly facing an 11-1 deficit heading into the bottom of the fifth, Erskine brought around freshman pinch hitter Aly Barrios with a one-out single. Ther Mustangs eventually loaded the bases, but Cal State Bakersfield starting righthander Maya Ramirez (2-5) stranded the bags full to end the matchup.
Bermudez collected two of Cal Poly's seven hits.
Cal Poly resumes action when visiting UC Riverside for a three-game, April 12-13 series. Action on ESPN+ gets underway Saturday, April 13 with a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
