SAN LUIS OBISPO – Highlighted by senior Nicky McCune’s second successive Big West Goalkeeper of the Year selection, eight Cal Poly men’s soccer players earned All-Big West praise for the 2025 season Tuesday afternoon.
Joining McCune among Cal Poly’s All-Big West first team honorees were senior midfielder Bakuena Ramakatsa and junior defender Parker Owens. Selected for All-Big West second team praise were senior defender Nico Baltazar, junior midfielder Sean McTague and sophomore forward Quinn Mahoney. Defenders Tanner Casey and Michael Vick, meanwhile, earned Big West All-Freshman Team inclusion.
Cal Poly’s eight honorees helped lead the Mustangs to a second straight Big West regular season title as the Mustangs finished in a three-way tie atop the table on 17 points – the program’s highest total since taking 18 in 2021 – with UC Irvine and UC Santa Barbara.
Seeded third for the Big West Championship, Cal Poly hosts No. 6 UC San Diego in a first round matchup Wednesday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m.
Completing one of the most impressive goalkeeping careers in program history, McCune closed the regular season ranked first among Big West goalkeepers with eight shutouts and 1,608 minutes played and third with a 0.78 goals against average and .785 save percentage. A six-time career Big West Defensive Player of the Week honoree and a starter in 38 of 41 collegiate outings, McCune ranks first in program history with a 0.86 career goals against average and fourth with 16 career shutouts and a .779 save percentage.
Ramakatsa, having started 35 of a possible 37 matches during the last two seasons, scored his first Division I goal in the program’s Sept. 18 home win versus Utah Tech. He also supplied two assists for a second straight season.

Despite seeing his season curtailed Oct. 18 through injury, co-captain Owens helped direct Cal Poly to six shutouts with the Mustangs having conceded just 14 goals – the second fewest among Big West programs. Last year’s Big West Defensive Player of the Year selection, Owens started the initial 15 games of the year and scored the eventual game-winning goal in Cal Poly’s 2-0 win at San Diego State (Sept. 21).
Having played 3,334 of a possible 3,350 minutes since his 2024 arrival, Baltazar was integral to Cal Poly’s nine shutouts in 18 matches this fall. Offensively, Baltazar scored against UC Davis (Oct. 1) and UC San Diego (Oct. 11) to fuel home victories.
Cal Poly’s co-leading scorer this season alongside Mahoney and Casey, all four of McTague’s strikes this fall have directed victories – including the game-winning goals against UC Davis (Oct. 1) and CSUN (Oct. 26). McTague was previously a 2022 Big West All-Freshman Team selection.
Mahoney, last year’s Big West Freshman of the honoree, equalized his four-goal tally from last fall inside Cal Poly’s opening seven matches of 2025. Sidelined the remainder of the year through injury, Mahoney remains first in the lineup with 26 shot attempts.
Vick, who redshirted last fall, debuted in Cal Poly’s lineup by starting 16 of 18 matches. Offensively, Vick ranks second in the Big West and 79th among NCAA Division I players with five assists.
Casey, also unavailable the rest of the year via injury, assisted Cal Poly to five shutouts while scoring in his collegiate debut at Air Force (Sept. 5), against Saint Mary’s (Sept. 14) and in victories versus Utah Tech (Sept. 18) and UC San Diego (Oct. 11).
Starting 35 of 37 matches over two years, scoring his first collegiate goal this fall, adding two more assists and, another Big West regular season title ... congrats on another amazing season, Bakuena Ramakatsa!#RideHigh pic.twitter.com/AlbXPqlFTB
