Mustangs Close Road Trip at Oral Roberts Thursday, Tulsa Sunday

SAN LUIS OBISPO – The Cal Poly men’s soccer program visits the state of Oklahoma for the first time in program history when squaring off at Oral Roberts on Thursday, Aug. 29 at 6:15 p.m. PT and completing a season-opening, four-match road trip against first-time foe Tulsa on Sunday, Sept. 1 at 5 p.m. PT. Seeking its first goal and victory of the 2024, Cal Poly began the season with a scoreless draw at San Francisco (Aug. 22) before sustaining a 2-0 setback at Saint Mary’s (Aug. 25). Also seeking its first victory of the year, Oral Roberts (0-1-1) opened the season with a 3-2 loss at No. 22 Kentucky (Aug. 22) before earning a 1-1 draw at No. 10 SMU (Aug. 25). Tulsa (0-1-0), which started with a 2-0 loss at UNLV (Aug. 22), hosts No. 24 Louisville Wednesday before welcoming Cal Poly.
CAL POLY VERSUS ORAL ROBERTS AND THE SUMMIT LEAGUE: Cal Poly’s only previous meeting with Oral Roberts was a 5-3 home defeat to begin the 2023 season – a result that included six goals inside the opening 17 minutes. Cal Poly has only faced two other current Summit League members in Denver (six times between 1998-2003) and Kansas City (1999).
CAL POLY VERSUS TULSA AND THE AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE: The Mustangs have never previously faced Tulsa and only twice prior played a current AAC member, falling at Charlotte in 1995 and 1996 before handing Temple a 4-1 defeat in San Luis Obispo in 2012.
UP NEXT (SEPT. 5/8): Cal Poly opens a seven-match home stretch at Mustang Memorial Field at Spanos Stadium by hosting San Jose State on Thursday, Sept. 5 at 7:30 p.m. and Gonzaga on Sunday, Sept. 8 at 1 p.m. Cal Poly is undefeated in six successive matches against San Jose State dating to 2005, chalking up five wins during the stretch and an 18-6 goal aggregate. The Mustangs are also undefeated in four straight versus Gonzaga after handing the Bulldogs a 4-0 defeat in Spokane last season.
ETC.: Cal Poly is in its 30th Division I season and 23rd as a Big West member … Cal Poly was selected fifth in the Aug. 19 release of the Big West Preseason Coaches poll.
