Mustangs Overwhelm Utah Valley in 3-1 Wednesday Victory

SAN LUIS OBISPO – A 26th-minute goal from Finn Linas (right) placed the Cal Poly men’s soccer program in front Wednesday evening against Utah Valley and second-half efforts from Rylan Firouznam and Charlie Hogan helped seal a 3-1 non-conference victory versus the Wolverines at Mustang Memorial Field.
Sophomore goalkeeper Dylan Glowaski recorded a pair of saves in his first career start for Cal Poly (5-4-5), which snapped a four-match winless run by outshooting Utah Valley (7-2-2), 22-8.
Linas got the Mustangs off the mark Wednesday, heading a cross from Firouznam in the middle of the Utah Valley penalty box past Wolverines goalkeeper Kolby Sessions.
Glowaski produced a one-handed save from Utah Valley midfielder Luca Wingaa Laursen to close the first half (bottom) and Firouznam doubled Cal Poly’s lead with a 70th-minute penalty.
The Wolverines clawed a goal back on 76 minutes through a Wingaa Laursen penalty, but Hogan completed the scoring two minutes from full time, collecting a blocked Linas shot attempt and redirecting the ball into the back of the Utah Valley net.

- Up Next: Cal Poly resumes Pac-12 play Saturday, Oct. 17, hosting No. 22 Oregon State at 7 p.m. on ESPN+. The Beavers lead the Pac-12 on 10 points with Cal Poly three points back of the fourth and final conference tournament spot.
- With his fourth goal of the year, Finn Linas matched Colin Pearce and Devin Bening for the Cal Poly scoring lead.
- Firouznam’s penalty marked his first goal of the season and first since scoring in a 3-0 win at Air Force on Sept. 5, 2025.
- Wednesday’s win was Cal Poly’s first against Utah Valley in four all-time attempts dating to 2019.
