Mustangs Finalize Sweep of UC Davis with 1-0 Saturday Win

SAN LUIS OBISPO – Sophomore righthander Sophia Ramuno tossed a complete-game, three-hitter in her second 1-0 shutout victory against UC Davis in as many afternoons as the Cal Poly softball program completed its first sweep of the Aggies since 2009 on Saturday at Bob Janssen Field.
Playing its 2024 home finale Saturday, Cal Poly (25-17, 15-8) produced the matchup's lone run at the first opportunity as junior catcher Julia Barnett followed a one-out triple off the right center field wall from senior shortstop Xiara Diaz (above) with a run-scoring single.
In the circle for Cal Poly, Ramuno (11-10) faced just two Aggies over the minimum through the opening three innings. No UC Davis baserunner reached third against Ramuno, who stranded two to complete the top halves of the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.
Ramuno finished with four strikeouts for Cal Poly, which regained third place in the Big West standings with Saturday's win.
Cal Poly completes the 2024 regular season when visiting UC San Diego May 10-11. The three-game series begins with a 5 p.m. matchup on Friday, May 10.
