Cal Poly Hosts Fresno Pacific Wednesday in Final Exhibition

SAN LUIS OBISPO – The Cal Poly men's soccer program features at Mustang Memorial Field Presented by French Hospital for the first time this fall on Wednesday, Aug. 23 as the Mustangs play their third and final exhibition match against Division II Fresno Pacific.
Kickoff is 7 p.m. for Cal Poly, which opened its preseason camp on Aug. 11, fell at UCLA in the initial Aug. 15 exhibition, 1-0, and drew away to San Jose State in the second Aug. 19 warmup, 1-1.
Cal Poly sophomore forward Luke Schaefer struck for the 26th-minute opener at San Jose State before the Spartans equalized in the 52nd.
In goal for Cal Poly, junior Gabe Penner has played 122 of the program's 180 exhibition minutes and been called upon to make just two saves. Sophomore Nicky McCune (above) started against San Jose State, played the first half and produced two saves without conceding.
Cal Poly has hosted Fresno Pacific for exhibitions and two regular season matches every year since 2015, defeating the Sunbirds by a multi-goal margin each meeting.
Following Wednesday's exhibition, Cal Poly enjoys three further training days before hosting first-time foe Oral Roberts in the Monday, Aug. 28 regular season opener. Kickoff from Mustang Memorial Field is 4:30 p.m.
