Mustangs Top Fresno Pacific, 7-0, to Close Exhibition Stretch

SAN LUIS OBISPO – Highlighted by sophomore forward Conner Lisenbee's hat trick, five different Mustangs found the back of the Fresno Pacific net Wednesday evening as the Cal Poly men's soccer program closed its three-match preseason exhibition stretch with a 7-0 victory at Mustang Memorial Field Presented by French Hospital.
Sophomore forward Sean McTague opened the scoring for Cal Poly in the fifth minute before junior defender Nate Colley doubled the lead with a seventh-minute penalty. Lisenbee produced his first strike in the 30th minute before freshman midfielder Benji Jimenez scored in the 39th to provide Cal Poly a 4-0 lead at the break.
Freshman forward Solomon Joel (75') and Lisenbee (82', 85') rounded out the scoring.
The Mustangs outshot Division II Fresno Pacific, 22-5, with junior goalkeeper Gabe Penner chalking up Cal Poly's lone save in the second half.
The Mustangs, who opened preseason camp on Aug. 11, fell at UCLA in their initial Aug. 15 exhibition, 1-0. Cal Poly then drew away to San Jose State in the second Aug. 19 warmup, 1-1.
Cal Poly now enjoys three further training days before hosting first-time foe Oral Roberts in the Monday, Aug. 28 regular season opener. Kickoff from Mustang Memorial Field is 4:30 p.m.
