SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — UC Irvine men's tennis kept its winning streak going after beating Cal Poly 7-0 Saturday at Mustang Tennis Complex.
The Anteaters, who have now won nine consecutive matches, took the doubles point to start the match on Saturday. All of the doubles matches were close, but UC Irvine won at both the No. 1 and No. 3 spots by scores of 6-4 to take the point.
Once singles got going, the Anteaters won in straight sets at the No. 4, No. 6, and No. 1 spots to clinch the dual. They later went on to also win at the No. 2, No. 5, and No. 3 spots.
Cal Poly junior Fernando Fonseca battled at the No. 3 spot, winning the second set of his match 7-6(2) to force a third set super tiebreaker but came up just short, falling 11-9.
The Mustangs (6-9, 1-2 BW) will be off until Sunday, April 16 when they host Hawai'i (9-6, 2-1 BW) at 10:30 a.m. in what will be the final home match of the year.
