Mustangs Prepare For Home Finale Sunday Against Hawai’i

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - As the conclusion of the regular season inches closer, Cal Poly men's tennis is set for its final home match Sunday at Mustang Tennis Complex as they face Hawai'i. Sunday's match wraps up the Mustangs' three-match homestand, as the team will travel south to finalize conference play next week.Ben Keyser prepares for his last match at home. During the season, Keyser compiled a record of 3-6 in doubles, partnering with Bastiaan Weststrate, Fernando Fonseca and Joe Leather. Following the conclusion of the match, Keyser will be honored for his contributions over his four year career.
Cal Poly is set to take on Hawai'i Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m. Live scoring will be available for fans to follow online for the match with links to be found on the men's tennis schedule page.
Hawai'i comes into the week sporting an overall record of 9-6 while going 2-1 thus far in conference play. Entering Sunday, the Rainbow Warriors are in the midst of a three-match road stint, following a recent five-match homestand. Aside from the Mustangs, the Rainbow Warriors face off against UC Davis and UC Santa Barbara this week. With all three teams in the hunt for a regular season title, each squad will be gunning for much needed wins in conference play.
Cal Poly looks to continue its winning ways against Hawai'i as the team is 10-1 all time against the Rainbow Warriors. This record includes a current nine match win streak as well as an undefeated record with six wins when playing at home. The sole defeat at the hands of the Rainbow Warriors dates back to March of 2014.
The Mustangs (6-9) look to play spoiler in the Big West Conference and make a late push of their own in conference play. Currently 1-2 in conference play, Sunday's match is a must-win for Cal Poly in order to keep its hopes alive for three-straight regular season titles. The Mustangs are looking to bounce back following a defeat to UC Irvine this past weekend.
With a singles record of 10-3 coming into the week, Noah Berry finds himself ranked No. 92 by the ITA in singles play. Sunday, Berry is set to face one of his toughest opponents of the season in the form of fellow All-Big West singles first team member and 2022 Big West player of the Year Andre Ilagan. Ranked No. 91 in singles play, Ilagan has compiled a record of 12-3 this season for the Rainbow Warriors.
Following Sunday's match, the Mustangs will travel to La Jolla as they face UC San Diego on Friday, April 21st at 12 p.m. followed by the regular season finale Sunday, April 23 at noon against rival UC Santa Barbara.
