Q: You've improved your numbers from last year in just about every stat category. What did you learn from playing as a freshman last year that helped you make a jump this year?
Sydney: I think just on-court experience helped me grow as a player. It also allowed me to figure out what helps me pregame and calms my excitement prior to the game. This summer I spent a lot of time working on my shot and getting stronger in the weight room which I think helped my game. This year I am in more of a leadership role which allows me to help the younger girls too.
Q: Who are some players you have modeled your game after and who did you enjoy watching growing up?
Sydney: There was a senior the year I was going into high school that I looked up to. I loved her game, she could score the ball at ease specifically her mid-range jumper and did all the little things so as a young 8th grader I would say I tried to emulate her game. I'm from the bay area, so I grew up watching the Warriors and love Steph Curry but specifically Draymond stood out to me and all the little things he does to make the Warriors good. My favorite WNBA player is Kelsey Plum.
Q: What are some of your favorite things to do around SLO?
Sydney: Watch the sunset, go to the beach, and explore all the great food options
Q: What are some of your hobbies outside of basketball?
Sydney: I love spending time with friends, hiking, and reading inspirational books
Q: What's the best piece of advice you've been given?
Sydney: It takes a lifetime to build a reputation, but just one mistake to ruin it.
Q: If you had to delete all but 3 apps from your phone, which ones would you keep?
Sydney: FaceTime, Tiktok, and Snapchat
Q: What career path would you like to go into after graduating?
Sydney: I would love to play overseas but if that does not work out I am also interested in becoming a coach, i really just can't imagine my life without some aspect of basketball
Q: What's something about yourself that people don't know that might surprise them?
Sydney: I know how to play the viola
Q: If you could have dinner with any three people - alive or dead - who would it be?
Sydney: Sue Bird, Megan Rapinoe, Kobe Bryant
Q: Last meal, what are you eating?
Sydney: Bacon Cheeseburger with Avocado and Fries
