SCOUTING THE CARDINAL: Through three games, Stanford leads the nation in shots on goal per game (14.67) and is ranked third in the nation in goals per game (4.33) and shots per game (26.33). The Cardinal attack is led by junior forward Samantha Williams, junior midfielder Amy Sayer and freshman forward Lumi Kostmayer, who have each found the back of the net three times this season. Senior midfielder Maya Doms was also one of 60 players named to the preseason watch list for the 2022 Women's MAC Hermann Trophy, which is awarded annually to the National Player of the Year. The Cardinal defense has only allowed one goal this season, with Stanford outscoring opponents 13-1. The preseason Pac-12 favorites finished 13-6-1 last year and fell to Santa Clara in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The 2019 NCAA Champion Cardinal have played in the NCAA Tournament 23 times over the last 25 years.
COMMON OPPONENT: Stanford and Cal Poly have both played Sacramento State this season. The Cardinal earned a 5-0 victory over the Hornets in their season opener, while the Mustangs grabbed a 1-0 win.
LIEBER LEADS THE WAY: Lieber was named the Big West Offensive Player of the Week and Big West Freshman of the Week on Monday after assisting on both of Cal Poly's game-winning goals against Minnesota and Sacramento State. This was Lieber's first time collecting either award, and she is just the second Big West women's soccer player ever to receive both awards in the same week. She's also the first freshman at Cal Poly to be named Big West Offensive Player of the Week since Elise Krieghoff in 2012. Lieber's three assists this season are tied for the most in the Big West, and she's assisted on every Mustang goal this season.

Samuel owns a .813 save percentage and a 1.50 goals against average thus far, recording her fifth career shutout in the victory over the Gophers in her 10th start as a Mustang. In her second start between the pipes for Cal Poly, Norman earned her first career shutout in Sunday's win over the Hornets, and currently has a .750 save percentage and a 0.50 goals against average.
STREAK BREAKERS: The Mustangs put an end to a pair of streaks this past week. Cal Poly secured its first victory over a Big Ten team since 2008 and defeated Sacramento State on the road for the first time in a decade.
UP NEXT: Cal Poly heads to Gonzaga next Thursday, Sept. 8, and Washington State on Sunday, Sept. 11, to wrap up a five-game road trip.
