Cal Poly Completes Season Prep with Saturday Home Exhibition

SAN LUIS OBISPO – Five days out from its Aug. 25 season opener against Dayton, the Cal Poly men's soccer program completes a three-game preseason exhibition run with a Saturday, Aug. 20 home matchup versus Santa Clara.
Kickoff from Alex G. Spanos Stadium is 7 p.m. for Cal Poly, which dealt Division II Fresno Pacific a 4-0 defeat (Aug. 13) before edging UNLV, 2-1 (Aug. 16), in its opening two exhibitions.
Sophomore forward Drew Patterson – named to the Big West Preseason Team on Friday – leads Cal Poly in scoring this preseason after producing a hat trick against Fresno Pacific inside the opening 36 minutes. Freshman forward Banyan Lyon has scored in each exhibition, including 11 seconds into the second half during Tuesday's win against Santa Clara.
Defensively, junior goalkeeper Victor Rodriguez has conceded just once in 118 preseason minutes.
Last year, Santa Clara finished 12-2-4 overall, captured the West Coast Conference title with a 5-0-2 mark and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament, first ousting Akron (2-1) before being eliminated at ninth-seeded Kentucky (2-0).
After opening the 2022 regular season with a Thursday, Aug. 25 matchup versus Dayton at Ohio State's Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium, Cal Poly faces the host Buckeyes on Sunday, Aug. 28.
