Patterson Hat Trick Highlights Men’s Soccer Intrasquad Matchup

SAN LUIS OBISPO – Sophomore forward Drew Patterson (above) chalked up a hat trick Wednesday afternoon as the Cal Poly men's soccer team's black squad topped the white side, 6-3, in the program's annual intrasquad matchup at Alex G. Spanos Stadium.

Freshman forward Isak Clausen scored twice for the white side in the intrasquad game, which was played just one day after Cal Poly opened its preseason training camp.

Freshman goalkeeper Gabe Penner recorded four saves in 30 reserve minutes for the black side, which took the lead on seven minutes through Patterson's first goal of the afternoon off the assist from sophomore forward Ocean Salari.

Salari doubled the lead in the 12th minute before senior forward Max Kleinhammes ran the advantage to 3-0 in the 18th.

Clausen's first goal of the afternoon in the 33rd minute cut the white side's deficit to 3-1, but black answered with goals from sophomore forward Ashton Alonge (35th) and Patterson (46th) to place the decision out of reach.

Freshman forward Banyan Lyon scored in the 47th for the white team before Patterson completed the hat trick on 49 minutes. Clausen then completed his brace in the 64th to cap the scoring.

Starting in goal for the black squad, junior Victor Rodriguez finished with three saves in 40 minutes.

Cal Poly continues regular season preparations with home exhibitions versus Division II Fresno Pacific (Saturday, Aug. 13), UNLV (Tuesday, Aug. 16) and Santa Clara (Saturday, Aug. 20).

Cal Poly opens the 2022 regular season with a Thursday, Aug. 25 matchup versus Dayton at Ohio State's Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
