Mustangs One-Hit UC Davis for 4-2, Home Finale Victory

SAN LUIS OBISPO – Senior lefthander Krystyna Allman and freshman righthander Paige Maier combined on a one-hitter Saturday afternoon as the Cal Poly softball program closed its 18-game home schedule at Bob Janssen Field with a 4-2 victory against UC Davis.
Cal Poly (19-26, 13-11) secured Saturday's only lead with its initial opportunity as senior shortstop Maddie Amos and senior designated player Lily Amos – playing their final home game as Mustangs – supplied run-scoring hits in the bottom of the first for a 2-0 advantage.
UC Davis (21-28 (9-15) halved Cal Poly's lead in the top of the second with third baseman Bella Pahulu slicing a base hit down the right field line to plate Leah Polson. The Aggies then knotted the scoreline in the top half of the third through a one-out, sacrifice fly from catcher Anna Dethlefson.
Aggies starting righthander Kenedi Brown (12-18) stranded two Cal Poly baserunners to close both the second and third innings. Cal Poly, however, regained the lead in the fourth with Maddie Amos bringing home freshman left fielder Jessica Clements from second base after singling through the left side of infield.
Handed the 3-2 lead, Maier (6-2) closed the game by retiring nine successive UC Davis hitters. After tossing a complete-game, one-hitter against UC Davis during game No. 2 of Friday's doubleheader, Maier allowed just one baserunner in four innings.
Completing Saturday's scoring in sixth, Cal Poly enjoyed a leadoff Clements double before senior center fielder Noellah Ramos reached on a throwing error from Dethlefson behind the plate. The miscue allowed Clements to score without a throw.
Cal Poly closes its 48-game season when visiting UC San Diego for a three-game, May 13-14 series. Action gets underway with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Friday, May 13.
