11/20/2022 10:05:00 PM | Men's Basketball
SAN LUIS OBISPO – Graduate guard Chance Hunter scored a game high 18 points and senior guard Trevon Taylor added 17 as the Cal Poly men's basketball program nearly overturned a 15-point, second half deficit but, in the first all-time meeting with Mount St. Mary's, Cal Poly opened the inaugural California Thanksgiving Jam Sunday evening with a 73-68 loss inside Mott Athletics Center.
Taylor (above) also grabbed a game high 10 rebounds to complete his second collegiate double-double for Cal Poly (1-3), which trailed Mount St. Mary's (2-3), 49-34, with 10 minutes remaining. Facing a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference program for just the third time in program history, Cal Poly responded with a 13-2 run within four minutes to cut the deficit to 51-47
Still trailing 54-50 a minute later, however, Cal Poly conceded points to Mount St. Mary's on four successive possessions and slipped to a double-digit disadvantage en route to defeat.

Kept to just two field goals the remainder of the period, Cal Poly received a Taylor layup three seconds from the break to trail entering the locker room, 30-26.
Cal Poly cut the Mount St. Mary's lead to two points three times early in the second half but, trailing 35-33 with 14 minutes to play, the Mustangs were kept without a field goal for a seven-minute span. Mount St. Mary's countered with a 14-1 run to go up, 49-34.
