Cal Poly Women’s Basketball Inks Three to National Letters of Intent

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Cal Poly head women's basketball coach Shanele Stires and her coaching staff signed their first recruiting class Friday, adding three players to National Letters of Intent.
The program will welcome Mary Carter (Rocklin, Calif.), Alana Goosby (Allen, Texas), and Jordan Hoffman (Weatherford, Okla.) to San Luis Obispo starting in the 2023-24 season.

Mary Carter (Rocklin, CA)Mary Carter Antelope High School / Cal Stars 6-3 . G/F
A four year varsity player at Antelope High School, Carter was named Sacramento Metro Player of the Year, Capital Valley League MVP, and earned First Team All-State honors as a junior after averaging 24.8 points per game, 11.4 rebounds per game, 3.1 assists per game, 3.1 blocks per game, and 1.8 steals per game as she helped lead the team to the NorCal Regional Championship game and San Joaquin Section Championship game.
As both a freshman and a sophomore, she was named First Team Sierra Foothill League. For AAU, she played for Cal Stars where as a sophomore the team won the Nike National Tournament.
Off the court, Carter, whose parents both played basketball at the college level, has been a scholar-athlete every year of high school and sports a 4.2 gpa. She plans to major in business at Cal Poly.
"I decided to choose Cal Poly because of the great relationships I was able to make with not only the coaches, but the girls on the team as well," Carter said. "I feel like the coaches really understand and appreciate me, which is amazing! Also, while on my official visit I was able to meet and hang out with a lot of the girls on the team and got along so well with them."

As a junior, Goosby was named First Team All-District 6A TAPPS by the Dallas News. She was also named to the 6A TAPPS All-Tournament Team.
In AAU, Goosby has played for Drive Nation EYBL and Nike Proskills EYBL.
Goosby, who plans to major in industrial technology and packaging, said she chose Cal Poly because "the coaching staff and girls showed me so much love. As soon as I arrived, I was surrounded by so much love. The energy of the coaching staff and their focus on building us up as strong women and not just athletes was exactly what I wanted. Plus, the beautiful town and campus."
Jordan Hoffman (Weatherford, OK) Weatherford High School / Southwest Elite 5-7 . G
A four-year player at Weatherford High School in Oklahoma, Hoffman has already been a two-time Firs Team All-Western Athletic Conference honoree.Jordan Hoffman
As a sophomore, she helped Weatherford reach semifinals of the state tournament and was named 4A State Tournament First Team. As a junior last year, she once again helped lead Weatherford to the semifinals of the state tournament.
In AAU this past year, she helped Southwest Elite win the Kentucky Run for Roses Tournament and was named First Team All-Tournament.
Hoffman also ran track and cross country and helped the Weatherford track team win four straight state championships. Individually, she won the state championship in the 800 meter and was part of state championship relay teams in the two-mile relay and the 800 meter relay in which she helped set the school record.
Hoffman plans to major in kinesiology and said she chose Cal Poly because "I believe in the coaches and the program they are building. The energy they have is unmatched and the girls on the team made it feel like my home away from home. I want to help build something special and I believe Coach Stires can help push me to get to that level."
