After stranding two baserunners to close the first inning, UC Santa Barbara (8-18, 4-5) opened the scoring in the second as right fielder Ally Nodohara led off with a home run.
Cal Poly (8-11, 3-6) grabbed its lone lead of the afternoon at the first opportunity through Amos, whose one-out, two-run homer provided the Mustangs a 2-1 edge. The homer was the second in as many days for Amos.
The Gauchos, however, answered with a five-run, bottom half of the third, highlighted by run-scoring hits from second baseman Maci Fines and shortstop Madelyn McNally.
Trailing 6-2 heading into the fourth, Cal Poly took two runs back with sophomore pinch runner Ellie Yamashita scoring through a UC Santa Barbara throwing error before senior center fielder Noellah Ramos (above) supplied a two-out single to plate sophomore catcher Xiara Diaz.
The Mustangs then pulled within a run of UC Santa Barbara in the fifth as junior right fielder Lily Amos doubled to right center to score Maddie Amos for the 6-5 deficit.
UC Santa Barbara though added a pair of runs in the fifth and one more in the sixth to extend the scoreline to 9-5.
Lily Amos, who enjoyed a three-hit effort, doubled with one down in the top of the seventh. Pinch runner Juju Sargent then scored the final run of the matchup for Cal Poly, cementing the scoreline at 9-6 through a Diaz sacrifice.
Cal Poly plays two of its next three series at home, starting with a four-game, April 9-10 set against Hawai'i. The series opens with a 4 p.m. doubleheader on Friday, April 9.
