
Schlemer, Ervin Lead Mustangs to 66-49 Win Over CS Northridge

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Juniors Molly Schlemer and Jonae Ervin led the Cal Poly women's basketball team to a 66-49 Big West Conference win over Cal State Northridge on Thursday at the Mott Athletics Center.
With the win the Mustangs improve to 15-9 overall and 9-4 in Big West games while CSUN falls to 13-13 overall and 7-7 in BWC games. For the Mustangs it was the team's seventh straight win at home. Cal Poly returns to the court on Saturday at 4 pm when the team will host Hawai'i.
Schlemer led the team with 22 points when she hit 10 of 14 from the floor. It was her 11th game scoring in double figure in the last 12. She also posted a career-high four blocks. Ervin recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 assists. For the nation's leading assist/turnover ratio leader, it was the third time this season with 11 dishes and her fourth double figure game of her career. She had three turnovers in the game.
Nikol Allison came off the bench to score 10 points when she hit five of seven from the floor while Caroline Reeves added nine points.
CSUN was led by Ashlee Guay with 17 points when she made seven of 14 field goals. She was the lone Matador to score in double figures.
Cal Poly shot 50 percent from the floor, making 30 of 60 shots, but made only three of 10 from long range. CSUN shot 35 percent from the floor and made five of 14 from beyond the arc.
Cal Poly outrebounded CSUN, 39-30 and dished out 23 assists with only 14 turnovers while CSUN had 14 assists with 16 turnovers.
The first half opened with the Mustangs moving out to an 8-0 lead with Reeves supplying six of the points. Cal Poly held its largest lead with eight minutes remaining in the half when Allison converted a layup to put the Mustangs up 11 (20-9). CSUN went on an 8-0 run to cut the lead to three, 20-17, in just three minutes. Cal Poly bounced back and held a four point lead, 26-22, lead at the break.
In the second half, with the Mustangs holding a four point lead, 30-26, Cal Poly went on a 13-2 run over the next three and a half minutes to blow open the game and hold a 17 point lead (45-28). CSUN would not cut the lead to single figures the rest of the game with the Mustangs holding its largest lead of the game, 19 points, in the final minute of play.
