
Cal Poly Travels to No. 5 Stanford for Friday Game

Opening Tip: The Mustangs will travel to Stanford for a game against the No. 5 Cardinal on Friday, Nov. 15. Tip for the game is set for 7 pm and will be carried on the Pac 12 network. The game will also be available at GoPoly.com with Dave Grant calling play by play.
The Mustangs went 0-2 at the Maggie Dixon Classic this past weekend, but senior Jonae Ervin is in mid-season form when she was named to the all-tournament team averaging 21.0 points and 4.0 rebounds. Her all-around game included 4.5 steals and 3.5 assists per game. She shot 45 percent from the floor and made four of seven shots from long range.
Junior Ariana Elegado was not far behind when she put up 16.0 points and dished out 2.5 assists per game with senior Molly Schlemer adding a double-double with 15.0 points and 11.0 rebounds.
This Week: The Mustangs travel to No. 5 Stanford for a non-conference game on Friday, Nov. 15 with tip set for 7:00 pm. Cal Poly enters the game, 0-2 while Stanford enters 1-1.

What's coming up: Following the game with the Cardinal, Cal Poly will return to San Luis Obispo for the team's home-opener on Monday, Nov. 18 against former Big West Conference foe, New Mexico State. Following the game with NMSU, Cal Poly will remain at home and hostNevada on Nov. 21 for a 7 pm game.

Stanford: The Cardinal opened the preseason ranked No. 3 in the country, but after defeating Boston College, 83-71, but falling to No. 1 Connecticut, 76-57, they are currently ranked No. 5 in the most resent USAToday/Coaches Poll. Two players pace the Cardinal with 20 plus points per game led by Chiney Oqwumike with 23.0 points per game. Amber Orrange adds 20.5 while Bonnie Samuelson comes off the bench to score 8.5 points. Ogwumike is also the team's top rebounder with 13.5 boards per game. with more then half coming at the offensive end of the court. Mikaela Ruef adds 9.5 rebounds per game. Orrange dishes out the assists with 5.5 per game.
A Little About the Mustangs.....:
• The Mustangs earned their first trip to the NCAA Tournament last season after winning the Big West Conference Tournament. Cal Poly posted a 21-11 overall record after falling to Penn State in the first round and a 13-5 mark in Big West Conference games. The Mustangs posted back-to-back Big West Regular Season Championships (2010-11 and 2011-12) with a 12-4 conference record in both seasons.
• The Mustangs won 21 games last season, tying the school record for most wins in a season. Cal Poly posted a Division I best 21 wins during the 2008-09 season when the team went 21-11. Overall in women's basketball history (since 1974-75), the team posted a 21-12 record in the 1981-82 season and 18-11 in 1979-80 when the team was competing at the Division II level. In 2011-12 the team won 17 games, one off pervious year (18) that tied for second-best in school history since making the move to Division I in the 1994-95 season. During the 2009-10 season, head coach Faith Mimnaugh's squad recorded 18 wins...
• The Mustangs have claimed the last four Big West Conference Player of the year awards with Molly Schlemer winning this past season, Kristina Santiago winning the award twice (2011-12 and 2009-10) and Rachel Clancy winning in 2010-11.
• The Mustangs have advanced to the postseason the last three seasons, twice in the WNIT. In 2011 the Mustangs hosted California and lost 74-60 while in 2012, Cal Poly traveled to Seattle and lost to Washington, 90-71.
• Cal Poly head coach Faith Mimnaugh picked up her 200 career win at Cal Poly with the team's 72-63 win at Nevada on Dec. 2, 2012. She is already has the most wins as a coach in program history, amassing 216 wins to this point in 16 seasons.

Maggie Dixon Classic: At the Maggie Dixon Classic hosted by DePaul, the Mustangs dropped both games, falling 84-69 to Duquesne and 83-76 to Harvard. Cal Poly shot 37 percent in the two games, but made just 11 of 41 shots from long range (27 percent). The team did alow Duquesne to shoot 56 percent from the floor and Harvard 54 percent.
Jonae Ervin Earns All-Tournament: Senior Jonae Ervin earned all-tournament honors at the Maggie Dixon Classic when she scored 19 and 23 against Duquesne and Harvard respectivley. In the two games she shot 45 percent from the floor and made four of seven from long range. She added 4.5 steals and 3.5 assists per game... She averaged 38 minutes a game.
Elegado's Numbers...: Junior Ariana Elegado was not far behind Ervin when she averaged 16.0 points in the two games.. She added five assists and a pair of rebounds in the two games.
Schlemer's Doulble-Double...: In the two games this past week, senior Molly Schlemer averaged 15 points and 11 rebounds in the games... Against Duquesne she scored nine points but grabbed 12 rebounds... Agaisnt Harvard she put up 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds...
Freshman Impact...: Freshman Maddison Allen was granted a redshirt season after going down with an injury after eight games last year.... This season she opened the season against Duquesne in the starting lineup and scored nine points with eight rebounds (six at the offensive end of the court). She was three of three from the floor and made three of six from the line... In the game with Harvard she came off the bench to score two ponits, but grabbed four rebounds...

Schlemer by the Numbers... : Led the team in both points (13.3) and rebounds (7.1)...Led Cal Poly in scoring 13 times last season...Led the team in rebounding 13 times... Scored in double figures 22 times... Recorded six double-doubles... Scored 20 or more points eight times last season...
Schlemer Named BWC Tournament MVP: Molly Schlemer added to her accolades when she was named the Big West Conference Tournament MVP when she scored 26 points in the semifinal game against UC Santa Barbara and corralled 16 rebounds in the championship game against Pacific.
Molly Schlemer Named Conference Player of the Year: Molly Schlemer was named the Big West Conference 2012-13 Player of the Year and All Big West Conference First Team last year, the fourth straight for the Cal Poly women's basketball program. The native of Santa Maria, averaged 13.3 points and 7.1 rebounds while recording 20 blocked shots in 32 games. She concluded the season 10th in the nation in field goal percentage when she connected on 54.2 percent of her shots from the floor.
Ervin and Elegado Selected 2012-13 Honorable Mention: Jonae Ervin and Ariana Elegado return for the 2013-14 season after being named all-conference honorable mention. Ervin averaged 8.1 points and 4.0 rebounds while dishing out a conference high 4.3 assists per game. She scored in double figures in eight contests, including a season-high 15 points, three times. She had 10 games with five or more assists and three games with 11; Loyola Marymount, UC Santa Barbara and Cal State Northridge. She concluded the season ranked fourth in the nation in assist/turnover ratio at 2.61. She won the title in 2011-12 season with a 2.67 ratio. Elegado averaged 12.0 points and 3.3 assists while shooting 38.4 percent from long range. She scored in double figures in 15 games including a career-high 31 points against Saint Mary's when she made 11 of 19 shots from the floor and seven of 14 from long range. She added four games of 20 or more points; Oregon State (27), Loyola Marymount (23) and UC Irvine with 20 points twice.
Ervin No. 4 in Assist/Turnover Ratio: Jonae Ervin has been one of the nations top assists/turnover player over the past two season... She led the nation in 2011-12 with 2.61 and was fourth last season at 2.61...
An Assists or Two...: The Mustangs were ranked 22nd in the nation and led the Big West Conference with 15.9 assists per game.
Stepping in II...: Amaka Ofodu plays a quiet roll on the team last season... but she has played in 28 games and started in two this season.... She scored a season-high eight points at Cal State Fullerton when she made four of five shots from the floor... She shot 59 percent from the floor... But its not that... It's her defensive play that keeps her on the court... Nominated by coach Mimnaugh as the conference defensive player of the year last season... She is the stopper...

Mustangs on the Move...: The Mustangs won eight of their last 10 games to conclude the 2012-13 season including the NCAA game... In that stretch the Mustangs outscored opponents 67.0 to 50.3... Grabbed 354 rebounds to 175... Shot 45.5 percent from the floor to 34.5... Made 39.8 percent from long range compared to 22.2 percent... and dished out 134 assists to 128...
Home Sweet Home... : The Mustangs posted a 12-4 home record this past season and won nine straight, before falling to Long Beach State in the regular season finale. The Mustangs were 8-1 at home in conference games.
21 Wins...: With the win over Pacific the Mustangs picked up the their 21st win of the season, tying the school record for most wins.

The 2008-09 season marked the first time the program posted a record better than .500...
Back to Back..: In back to back games, Jonae Ervin dished out 11 assists (UC Santa Barbara and CS Northridge) and the third time this season... Against CS Northridge, Ervin was credited with 11 assists and three turnovers. In the win over UC Santa Barbara one week later, Ervin dished out 11 assists, but this time without a turnover. She was the NCAA leader last season with a ratio of 2.67. The UCSB game was the fourth in her career with 10 or more assists in a game.

Hannah Gilbert, 6-3, Center, Morro Bay, CA/ Morro Bay HS
Named MVP of the Los Padres League as a junior when she led the team to a 20-4 overall record and 12-0 in league games… She averaged 14.4 points, 10.6 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game while making 73 percent of her shots from the line. As a sophomore she helped lead the team to a 20-6 overall record and a 10-2 mark in league games when she averaged 11.6points and 9.7 rebounds per game…. As a freshman she posted numbers of 5.9 points and 7.4 rebounds in helping the team to an 18-8 overall record and 10-2 league record…
Mary Kate Evans, 6-0, Forward, Atascadero, CA/ Atascadero HS
As a junior she averaged 19.3 points, 13 rebounds, 4.4 blocks and 2.9 steals per game in leading her team to an 18-9 overall record and a 9-3 mark in league games earning All CIF honors…. She was named first-team all-league and all-county first-team and Atascadero High School MVP… As a sophomore averaged 11.2 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.2 steals and 1.5 blocks per game earning All CIF for the second time… Named all-county… Also earned named team MVP… Intends to major in environmental engineering at Cal Poly….
Sarah Lipton, 6-1, Forward, Irvine, CA/ Woodbridge HS
As a junior she averaged 14 points, 6 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.63 blocks per game while shooting 40 percent from the floor and 39 percent from long range… She was MVP and First-Team All-Pacific Coast League … She also honored when she was named All-City MVP and invited to the Nike Skills Academy… As a sophomore she was named All-CIF Southern Section, First-Team All-Pacific Coast League and led Woodbridge HS in scoring… As a freshman she named second-team all-league as the team advanced to the 1A CIF Semifinals and the CIF Southern Section Division 2AA Championships. Played club for Cal Swish Black and head coach Russ Davis…
Rachel Koehler, 5-10, Forward, Billings, MT/Billings Senior HS
Led the team in scoring (10 ppg) and rebounding (8 rpg) while adding 1.4 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.0 block per game… She was named to the first-team all-league… The all-around athlete was named all-state in soccer three times and one in track and field… Finished second in the state in the triple jump and advanced to the championship in the 4 x 100 relay…
• Mustangs Selected to Defend BWC Title by Media in Preseason Poll
The Cal Poly women's basketball team has been selected by the media to take home the 2013-14 Big West women's basketball title, earning 17 first place votes and 177 points. Hawai'i was selected to finish second with three first place votes and 159 points. Third and fourth place were separated by just one point as Cal State Northridge and Long Beach State collected 121 and 120 points, respectively. Head coach Faith Mimnaugh, entering her 17th season, returns 12 letterwinners including 2012-13 Big West Conference Player of the Year, Molly Schlemer, and welcomes four newcomers.
