
Strong Second Half Lifts Mustangs over Titans, 78-58

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The Cal Poly women's basketball team scored 47 second-half points to put away Cal State Fullerton in a Big West Conference game, 78-58, on Thursday in Mott Gym. Cal Poly held a 31-30 edge at the half.
Sophomore Caroline Reeves led the Mustangs with 16 pints hitting seven of 13 shots from the floor while redshirt freshman Jonae Ervin came off the bench to add 13 points hitting six of nine field goals.
Freshman Molly Schlemer came off the bench to score 12 with while junior Abby Bloetscher also added12 points.
The game marked head coach Faith Mimnaugh's 100th Big West Conference win in her career. She became the fifth women's coach in league history to hit the mark.
Guard Lauren Chow led the Titans with 14 points with Ashley Richie adding 10.
Cal Poly shot 55 percent for the game, 60 percent in the second half, while CSF was limited to 36 percent.
The Mustangs outrebounded the Titans 38-31 led by Kayla Griffin and Bloetscher with nine boards each.
Griffin also led the team with a career-high eight assists.
The Mustangs used a 10-0 run to open the second half and never looked back. Ervin's layup with 17:09 on the clock gave the Mustangs a 41-30 lead.
Cal Poly made it a 20 point lead (67-47) when Schlemer converted a layup with 2:25 on the clock.
Cal Poly would go on to score the last nine points of the game and its biggest lead at 23 points, 78-55.
The Mustangs remain one game up on the Gauchos of UC Santa Barbara in the conference standings as UCSB defeated Long Beach State 74-70 on Thursday.
Cal Poly will host the 49ers of Long Beach State on Saturday at 4 pm.
