SAN LUIS OBISPO – With the Cal Poly beach volleyball team setting a new program record with seven Big West Spring Academic All-Conference selections and the women’s tennis squad matching its program record with six honorees, sixty-one total Mustangs across nine sports earned recognition Thursday afternoon.
In order to qualify for selection, student-athletes (excluding true freshmen and first-year transfers) had to maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA through the most recent academic term while also competing in at least 50 percent of their program’s competitions.
The complete listing of Cal Poly’s 61 Big West Spring Academic All-Conference honorees is below.
The Cal Poly women’s track and field program topped all programs with 14 honorees, including two-time conference pole vault champion Lexi Evans and distance standout Kelli Gaffney – both of whom qualified for the NCAA West Preliminary meet. Three other Mustangs also became three-time all-academic selections in seniors Lariel Henley, Carissa Buchholz (one track honor, two cross country) and Maia Garcia (two track, one basketball).
The Big West champion men’s track and field program contributed 13 additional selections, highlighted by junior Rory Devaney, who earned All-American honors at June’s NCAA Championship with his fifth-place finish in the hammer throw. Five other Mustangs who qualified for NCAA West Preliminary meet earned all-academic praise in graduate students Corban Payne (shot put) and Chase Walter (400 meters, 4x400 meter relay), senior Spencer Pickren (1,500 meters) and juniors Carson Smith (1,500 meters) and Lewis Westwood (800 meters). Walter (three track, one baseball) and Westwood (track and cross country) became four-time honorees while Payne, Smith and Pickren are three-time selections.
Reaching a second straight NCAA Championship semifinal appearance in May, the Mustang beach volleyball team saw senior Piper Ferch, junior Izzy Martinez and sophomore Logan Walter combine Big West all-academic selection with AVCA All-America honors. Ferch, who tied the program’s career wins record with 101 victories, also earned All-Big West selection alongside fellow all-academic picks Martinez, Walter, graduate student Lindsey Sparks, junior Ella Connor and sophomore Quinn Perry.

Cal Poly’s baseball program, which captured May’s inaugural Big West Championship to qualify for the program’s first NCAA Tournament in 11 years, earned four all-academic selections – including All-Big West second team honoree Jake Torres.
For the fifth time in the last seven seasons, the Cal Poly softball program enjoyed a minimum of seven selections, with the 2025 class including All-Big West selections Julia Barnett and Kate Judy. Senior righthander Paige Maier, meanwhile, completed her career as a three-time Big West all-academic selection.
Representing the men’s and women’s golf programs, respectively, as NCAA Regional individual qualifiers, seniors Baron Szeto and Jensen Jalufka closed their careers with all-academic praise. They were joined by men’s sophomore Louis Pilod and women’s standouts Kamille Dimayuga and Sarah Yoo.
Reaching the Big West Championship title match for a fifth straight year, the Cal Poly women’s tennis program saw four of its six academic selections also earn All-Big West recognition in seniors Peyton Dunkle and Romane Mosse, junior Kennedy Buntrock and redshirt sophomore Amy Leather. During this past season, Dunkle also broke the program Division I record for dual singles victories.
Men’s tennis senior Bastiaan Weststrate received a third successive Big West all-academic award after also earning All-Big West recognition alongside sophomores Raz Haviv and Sean Kamyshev.
