Mustangs Edged by Long Beach State 1-0 in Saturday Season Finale

LONG BEACH – Senior righthander Kate Judy tossed a complete-game, six-hitter in her final collegiate appearance for the Cal Poly softball program Saturday afternoon, but Long Beach State scratched across an unearned run during the bottom half of the sixth inning for a 1-0 victory in the regular season finale for both sides.
Judy, who tossed all 10 innings of Cal Poly's 2-1, series-opening setback on Friday, kept Long Beach State to one hit during the opening two innings before stranding two in scoring position to complete the third. She kept another baserunner on third to end the fourth before stranding the bags loaded in the fifth.
Long Beach State designated player Rebekah Durazo, however, reached on a Mustang fielding error to lead off the sixth. With Sophia Stein on to run, second baseman Avery Weisbrook successfully laid down a sacrifice bunt before pinch hitter Brooklyn Lee singled up the middle of the infield to drive home the decisive run.
Offensively, Cal Poly enjoyed baserunners in every inning bar two, but stranded a pair of Mustangs in the first and second and one apiece during the third, fourth and sixth.
