SAN LUIS OBISPO — Cal Poly’s offensive line coming into Spring 2025 looks much different than the previous season after four starters either graduated or transferred, but the Mustang coaching staff is more excited than ever about what this current group offers in a “prove-it” year for returners and newcomers alike.
The Mustangs lost Payson Campisano, Ethan Bronson, Hunter Jones, Charles Lincoln, and Austin Anderson to graduation after the 2024 season, while standout FCS Freshman All-American left tackle Brady Norton made the jump to power-4 FBS football by transferring to Michigan in December 2024.
Head Coach Paul Wulff expressed very little concern in how the team was going to replace the starting experience on the offensive line, saying assuredly, “We have some JUCO guys, four-year transfers, and returners who are all going to get plenty of experience quickly.”
We’ve got a couple guys who we think are going to step up and play well, and we’re excited about the current talent level.Head Coach Paul Wulff
Racin Delgatty, a 6-foot-3 and 305-pound redshirt sophomore, is the one returning consistent starter from last season. Coach Wulff had a lot of confidence in the young star, “Racin did a lot of great things last year. We envision him taking a big step this year based on what he’s been doing in the weight room this offseason along with his returning experience.”
With Delgatty now in his third year as a Mustang, having a returning Center that’s working with the same quarterbacks and creating chemistry with them is important to Cal Poly’s staff: “(On the importance of QB-OL relationships) It’s spending time together, whether on or off the football field, that helps build chemistry. Even so, we’re going to have a system where all they have to do is their job, regardless of who the quarterback is.”

Alongside Delgatty in returning to the fray this year are redshirt junior Hayden Jones, redshirt freshman Tristan Fui, redshirt senior Tyler Charbonneau, redshirt freshman Kamani Fifita, redshirt freshman Enzo Hall, redshirt junior Jasdev Banwait, redshirt junior Tanner Hirschler, redshirt freshman Trevor Newkirk, and redshirt sophomore Miles Medina.
Hayden Jones, brother of recent graduate lineman Hunter Jones, has played sparingly over his three seasons at Cal Poly. Jasdev Banwait also has a bit of experience playing in live games, as he started two years ago at left tackle due to some injuries to other players, and as a redshirt freshman helped the team finish no. 5 in passing offense and no. 37 in total offense.
Miles Medina and Tristian Fui are both younger returners on the offensive line who the coaching staff have especially high hopes for, particularly with Fui having versatile and athletic experience as a blocking tight end.
We may have lost guys who had starting experience here, but the good news is we still have plenty of [returning] players who have been in the system for a few years, guys who put in the work every day, and we’re excited about the direction that the unit is moving in.Offensive Line Coach Ryan Payne
Highlighting the newcomers is Division I FBS transfer Anthony Patt, a graduate student from Old Dominion, who coach Wulff expects to be among legitimate competition for the starting left tackle role. Charlie Adams and Matthew Mena are a pair of upperclassmen and junior college transfers.
The most important thing for this coaching staff is making sure the entire unit is prepared for live ball and gametime, with coach Wulff expressing that the best they can do is, “Practice, practice, practice. We have to make practice hard, to the point where the games seem easier because of it.”
Offensive Line Coach Ryan Payne expressed similarly that, “We talk all the time about treating practice like a game. So, when they come out on the field, their cleats hit the turf and they’re rolling immediately, the mentality has to flip, and for me, I need to create situations in practice that are as hard if not even harder than gameday is.”
Payne also gave an update on where the line is currently at: “We have an agile group that moves well in the pass, and we are coming along in the run game as well. Based on stats from the last two years, that’s definitely something we need to improve on, so there’s been a big focus on that during Spring ball and we’re making strides.”
