
No. 56 Cal Poly Hosts Santa Clara, CSUN this Weekend

Editor’s note: During Saturday’s match against Santa Clara at noon, Cal Poly women’s tennis will be holding a Nephrotic Syndrome Awareness Day to honor their Team IMPACT member, Brooke, and all those that fight the rare kidney disease.
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Cal Poly women's tennis looks to keep the momentum rolling this weekend as the team continues its four-match homestand with a pair of matches.
The weekend starts Saturday against Santa Clara when the Mustangs (10-3, 2-1 Big West) host their Nephrotic Syndrome Awareness Day match, followed by a showdown with Big West foe CSUN on Sunday. Both matches start at noon.

The 56th-ranked Mustangs secured a 4-3 home victory over Loyola Marymount on Monday at home, earning their seventh win in their last eight matches.
Freshman Jessica MacCallum continued her impressive play at the No. 5 singles spot, dominating her opponent with a 6-1, 6-0 victory, improving to 10-3 on the year and 8-1 at the fifth spot. She has now won nine of her last 10 singles matches.
At No. 2, senior Peyton Dunkle delivered a 6-3, 6-3 win, securing her 44th career dual singles victory, tying her for sixth on Cal Poly’s all-time list with Chelsy Thompson.
Junior Alexandra Ozerets came through in the clutch once again, clinching the match at the No. 4 singles spot with a hard-fought 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 win, improving to 9-3 on the season and 6-1 at the fourth spot. It marked her fourth dual-clinching victory this season.
On Saturday, the Mustangs are set to square off with a Santa Clara side that is 6-7 on the season and has lost five straight matches, including three against ranked opponents. Cal Poly was originally scheduled to host the Broncos on Jan. 26, but the match was postponed due to rain. Last year, the Mustangs defeated Santa Clara 5-2 in San Luis Obispo.
CSUN enters Sunday’s match with a 6-6 record and is 0-2 in Big West play this season, falling at Hawai’i 5-2 and at Long Beach State 4-3. Last year, Cal Poly lost 4-3 to the Matadors in Northridge.
With a 10-3 record, Cal Poly is off to its best start since starting the COVID-shortened 2020-21 season 11-2.
Cal Poly will close out its four-match homestand next week when the Mustangs host No. 69 Columbia at noon on Friday, March 21, at the Ronca Tennis Center.
