No. 56 Cal Poly Secures Second Straight Shutout Win

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — For the third time in their last four matches, the Mustang women's tennis team rolled to a shutout victory over their opponent, defeating Gonzaga 6-0 Friday at the Ronca Tennis Center.
Cal Poly, ranked No. 56 in the nation in the latest ITA team rankings, improved to 5-2 with the victory. It marked the second straight shutout win for the Mustangs after they beat San Jose State 4-0 this past Sunday at home.
The Mustangs got the final weekend of their six-match homestand started in style, cruising to the doubles point. At No. 2, senior Peyton Dunkle and redshirt sophomore Amy Leather earned a 6-2 win to improve to 2-0 together this season. Then the No. 3 tandem of sophomore Natalie Lynch and freshman Jessica MacCallum clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 victory of their own, moving to 2-1 on the year.
In singles, Cal Poly picked up five victories in straight sets to silence the Bulldogs (5-3).
Junior Alexandra Ozerets got things started with a dominant 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 4, improving to an impressive 5-1 on the year. Lynch made it 3-0 Cal Poly with a double bagel victory (6-0, 6-0) at No. 6, grabbing her fourth straight win and improving to 4-1 this season.
MacCallum secured the clinching point for the Mustangs for the second straight match, defeating her opponent at No. 5 6-2, 6-2 to capture her fifth consecutive win and move to 5-2 on the year.
With the dual already clinched, senior Romane Mosse upped her winning streak to four with a decisive 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 3 to improve to 4-2, while Dunkle went to 3-1 on the year with a 7-5, 6-2 victory at No. 2.
Cal Poly will look to secure its third straight win when they host Grand Canyon at 2 p.m. Sunday to finish off a six-match homestand.
