Cross, Ferguson Collect Wins, But Cal Poly Falls at LMU

LOS ANGELES — Freshman John Cross and freshman Sean Ferguson both earned singles victories, but Cal Poly men's tennis fell on the road Friday at LMU, 5-2.
The Lions took the doubles point to start off the match after winning at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots.
In singles, the Mustangs battled all of the matches close. LMU won at the No. 2 and No. 5 spots to take a 3-0 lead.
Ferguson then won his match at the No. 6 spot 6-4, 7-5 to earn the first singles victory of his collegiate career.
A little while later, Cross earned a 6-3, 7-6(2) victory at the No. 4 spot in the lineup to get Cal Poly on the scoreboard. It was Cross' first singles win of his collegiate career.
The Lions then won a three-set match at the No. 1 spot and at the No. 3 spot to finish the match.
Cal Poly will stay in Los Angeles Saturday to take on the University of Utah at 1 p.m.
