First Look: Montana State

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Well rested off a bye week, Cal Poly football returns home this week to face No. 5 Montana State, its fourth straight game against a ranked opponent, Saturday at 5 p.m. at Mustang Memorial Field presented by French Hospital at Spanos Stadium.
Playing their last two games against top 10 opponents in No. 7 UC Davis and No. 4 Montana, the Mustangs were tight in both contests, falling to Davis by a touchdown and led Montana 9-0 at halftime. Currently at 3-4 overall and 1-2 in Big Sky play, Cal Poly will look to get back in the win column this week against a 5-2 Montana State team that is also coming off a bye.
On defense, Cal Poly boasts the top two tacklers in the Big Sky in linebackers Mikey D’Amato and Kenny Olson. Both are also top 10 in the country in that category. As a a team, the Mustangs are third in the Big Sky in sacks. Offensively, wide receiver Michael Briscoe leads the Big Sky and is tied for fourth in the FCS in receiving touchdowns.
For Saturday’s game, the first 500 kids age 13 and under will receive a reversible Cal Poly bucket hat upon entry to the game. Also new this year for students is the chance to win one quarter of in-state tuition. Each of the first 2,500 students to arrive will receive a raffle ticket to enter to win. The winner will be announced after the third quarter ends.
Cal Poly is once again doing ‘City Days’ this year at football games. Each game, fans from different select cities around the Central Coast can purchase a ticket for $5. For this Saturday’s game against the Bobcats, it is Morro Bay and Cayucos Day. Fans from there can purchase $5 tickets HERE.
