SAN LUIS OBISPO – Forward Jack Civitts and defenders Nico Baltazar and Tanner Casey all found the back of the UC San Diego net Saturday evening and a Tritons own goal completed the scoring as the Cal Poly men’s soccer program moved into second place in the Big West standings with a 4-0 victory at Mustang Memorial Field.
Keeping UC San Diego without a shot on target, Cal Poly (5-4-4, 2-1-1) improved to seven points in the Big West standings alongside CSUN with both programs trailing joint co-leaders Cal State Bakersfield and UC Santa Barbara – which drew 1-1 Saturday – by a single point.
With five regular season matchups remaining, Cal Poly resumes action Wednesday, Oct. 15, visiting Sacramento State at 3 p.m.
Equaling a season low with just seven total shot attempts allowed, Cal Poly produced Saturday’s eventual game-winning goal with the night’s first attempt on frame as junior forward Sean McTague – pouncing on an errant UC San Diego pass – played a ball that found freshman midfielder Cole Aman inside the penalty box. Aman slid a pass across the box for a sliding Civitts, who beat UC San Diego goalkeeper Nic Thiele at the right post.

The Mustangs then went up 2-0 on 36 minutes after Tritons defender Keenai Braun – attempting a pass back to Thiele – went wide of his goalkeeper at the left post and into the net.
Into the second half, Baltazar placed Cal Poly up 3-0 in the 59th after heading off the crossbar and across the goal line following a flick by Casey on a corner kick from freshman defender Michael Vick.
Casey returned eight minutes later to complete the scoring, heading a Vick corner off a UC San Diego defender and past Thiele. Scoring his fourth goal of 2025, Casey moved alongside sophomore forward Quinn Mahoney for the team lead.
