Cal Poly Men's Tennis Begins Journey for Big West Title Friday Against UC Riverside

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — After finishing Big West regular season play with a 4-2 record and third place in the standings, Cal Poly men's tennis will begin its journey toward a conference title starting Friday in San Diego at the Big West Championship.
Friday, the Mustangs take on No.6 seed UC Riverside at 9 a.m. with the winner moving on to face No. 2 seed UC Irvine in the semifinals on Saturday at 10 a.m.

So far this season Cal Poly has already taken down UC Riverside 4-0 and barely lost to UC Irvine 4-3.
In the beginning of the season the Mustangs faced some bad weather but were able to overcome it and still take third in conference.
Colter Smith and Bastiaan Weststrate have been pacing the doubles teams with a record of 12-3 overall and 5-0 in Big West play. They have had some notable wins including taking down the 44th ranked double pair in the country in No.45 UC Santa Barbara's Pablo Masjuan and Kai Brady. They also beat University of San Diego's doubles team Sacchitt Sharrma and Iiro Vasa.
A standout singles player is Sean Kamyshev with a record of 10-6. He had a big win against No.61 University of Oregon's Lenn Luemkemann. Kamyshev also took down UC Irvine's Lawee Sherif.
Cal Poly is seeking to win the program's fourth Big West Championships title and first since 2014. The Mustangs have reached the championship match five times since 2014 including most recently in 2021.
