SAN LUIS OBISPO – Highlighted by 24 home games at Bob Janssen Field, five matchups against programs that qualified for the 2024 NCAA Tournament and the inaugural postseason Big West Championship, the Cal Poly softball program released its 50-game schedule for the 2025 season Thursday morning.
Returning four positional starters and two All-Big West selections from last’s squad that finished 28-17 overall and third in the Big West standings with 18 conference victories, Cal Poly enjoys six home series in 2025 and faces two first-time opponents in Omaha and Utah Tech.
Cal Poly opens its 51st varsity season with the return – following a one-year hiatus – of the Mustang Classic, scheduled for Feb. 6-9 and comprising three games apiece versus Oregon State (21-29, 2024) and Ball State (29-29).
The Mustangs next play five games as part of the Feb. 14-16 Silicon Valley Classic I, including a Friday, Feb. 14 matchup at co-host Santa Clara (30-23) and Saturday, Feb. 15 doubleheader at fellow co-host San Jose State (18-27).
Cal Poly returns home to host Sacramento State for a three-game, Feb. 22-23 series before completing Big West preparations at Long Beach State’s Feb. 28-March 2 Louisville Slugger Invitational. After opening the competition on Friday, Feb. 28 against Pitt (17-32), Cal Poly faces defending Summit League Tournament champion and NCAA Tournament Columbia Regional finalist Omaha (43-15) as part of a Saturday, March 1 doubleheader.
The program’s 28th year of Big West action begins with a three-game, March 8-9 home series versus CSUN (25-26) before the Mustangs visit UC Davis (21-29) March 15-16.
After hosting defending Big West champion and 2024 NCAA Tournament Stanford Regional finalist Cal State Fullerton (39-19) March 22-23, Cal Poly visits Washington (32-15) for a Tuesday, March 25 single matchup and Seattle for a Wednesday, March 26 doubleheader.
The Mustangs return to Big West action at UC Santa Barbara (20-28) March 29-30 before hosting three of their next four conference series at home with dates against Cal State Bakersfield (5-46) April 5-6, UC San Diego (16-35) April 18-19 and Hawai’i (20-26) April 25-26. Cal Poly completes the regular season at 2024 Big West runner-up Long Beach State (25-29) May 2-3.
The top six programs in the 10-team Big West standings qualify for the first Big West Championship, scheduled for May 7-10 and hosted at Cal State Fullerton’s Anderson Family Field. With a double-elimination format, the Big West Championship winner qualifies for the 2025 NCAA Tournament.
