Clements, Sargent, Ramuno Earn All-Big West Praise

SAN LUIS OBISPO – Highlighted by sophomore center fielder Jessica Clements' second successive selection to the All-Big West first team, three Cal Poly softball players earned conference recognition for the 2023 season on Tuesday afternoon.Joining Clements among Cal Poly's selections was junior right fielder Juju Sargent – named to the All-Big West second team – and righthander Sophia Ramuno, who earned Big West honorable mention recognition and a spot on the Big West All-Freshman Team.
The leading hitter in Cal Poly's 49-year history with a .384 career mark, Clements finished fourth among conference players this spring with 11 doubles, fifth with a .370 (51-for-138) batting average and .460 on-base percentage, sixth with 51 hits and eighth with 29 runs. She also led Cal Poly with 11 multi-hit games – including a 5-for-5 performance against Hawai'i (April 8) that matched a Big West all-time record for single game hits.
Clements (above, left), the program's first consecutive two-time All-Big West first team honoree since righthander Lindsey Chalmers (2017-18), reached base in all but three of Cal Poly's 42 games this spring, batted safely 34 times and averaged 1.2 hits per game.
Earning her first All-Big West selection, Sargent (above, center) batted .333 during Cal Poly's final 13 games to rank second in the lineup with a .289 (39-for-135) mark, 39 hits and 10 multi-hit games. She also finished ninth among Big West players with 12 steals and first in Cal Poly's lineup with seven multi-RBI games.
One of six Mustangs to start all 42 games, Sargent was one of just three to do so at the same position the entire season alongside Clements and junior shortstop Xiara Diaz.
Ramuno (above, right) produced a pair of nine-strikeout performances in her final three appearances of the season to finish on 142 – the fourth best total among Big West pitchers and 11th highest in Cal Poly single season program history.
With a 2.21 ERA in 20 Big West appearances, Ramuno finished sixth among conference players with 12 victories, seventh with 141.1 innings pitched and eighth with 21 starts. She compiled a 2.7-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio, averaged 1.00 strikeouts per inning and struck out career best 10 UC Riverside hitters in a March 25 road win.
