
Cal Poly Continues Homestand This Weekend Against Santa Clara, Nevada

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — After a nearly two week hiatus, the Cal Poly men's tennis team will be back in action this weekend to continue its stretch of home matches when hosting Santa Clara and Nevada.Noah Berry, ranked No. 64 in the latest ITA singles rankings, has been red hot to start the season. Already having won two Big West Men's Tennis Player of the Week awards, he is 5-0 in singles while playing at the No. 1 spot in the lineup. At the No. 1 doubles spot with redshirt junior Colter Smith, they are 5-2 and have won five straight matches.
Doubles has been an area of strength for the Mustangs so far this season. They have won the doubles point in four of the seven matches. Combined, Cal Poly pairings are 10-7 in doubles matches this season.
The Broncos (6-4) are coming off a 6-1 loss to Washington last weekend. Santa Clara is 1-4 in road matches this season but features a team entirely of upperclassmen with four graduate students, three seniors, and one junior. Cal Poly is 13-8 all-time against the Broncos and has beaten Santa Clara each of the last two seasons.
The Wolfpack (3-5) have won two straight matches after beating both New Mexico State and UNLV last weekend. Nevada is coming off a historic 2022 season last year, winning the Moutain West regular and postseason titles and making the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history, finishing 19-8. Cal Poly is 11-2 all-time against the Wolfpack and have won three of the last four meetings.
These will be the fourth and fifth matches of the Mustangs' eight match homestand. After this weekend, Cal Poly will host UNLV and Penn March 10 and 11 at Mustang Tennis Complex.
The Mustangs (3-4) will welcome Santa Clara to Mustang Tennis Complex Saturday at 1 p.m. and Nevada Sunday at 11 a.m.
Winners of two of their last three matches, Cal Poly hasn't played since Feb. 19 after bad weather forced their scheduled match last weekend against No. 50 Oregon to be canceled. Junior
