Berry Stays Unbeaten But Mustangs Edged by Boise State Sunday

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Junior Noah Berry won singles match to stay unbeaten this so far this season but Cal Poly came up just short against Boise State at home Sunday, falling to the Broncos 4-3.
The Mustangs (3-4) got off to a strong start to begin the dual by taking the doubles point. The No. 2 duo of redshirt junior Joe Leather and sophomore Bastiaan Weststrate kicked things off with a 6-2 win.
Berry and redshirt junior Colter Smith then clinched the point after winning at the No. 1 spot, 6-3. They have won five straight matches and are now 5-2 this season.
In singles, Boise State won at the No. 4 and No. 2 spots to take a 2-1 dual lead before Smith won at the No. 3 spot 6-3, 6-3 to tie it up.
The Broncos then won at the No. 5 spot before clinching the win after a three set victory at the No. 6 spot.
Playing it out, Berry was able to hold on and win his match at the No. 1 spot in three sets, 6-2, 6-7(4), 1-0(10-3) to move his record to 5-0 to begin the year.
Cal Poly will continue its current homestand Sunday, Feb. 26 when hosting Oregon at Mustang Tennis Complex at 11 a.m.
