SAN FRANCISCO – Three goals inside the opening four minutes of the second half from San Francisco helped the hosts cement a Monday evening victory as the Cal Poly men's soccer program dropped its final non-conference road matchup of the regular season at Negoesco Stadium, 6-0.
Cal Poly (0-5-0) held San Francisco (4-0-2) to just 10 shot attempts, but the Dons – who claimed their first victory against the Mustangs in four attempts and 22 years – found the back of the net with 60 percent of their opportunities.
Cal Poly completes Big West Conference preparations with a three-game home stand that opens on Saturday, Sept. 17 against Saint Mary's. Kickoff from Alex G. Spanos Stadium is 7 p.m.
The Dons scored Monday's opening goal in the 22nd minute with the evening's first shot attempt as midfielder Max Hamelink slid an attempt across the Mustang penalty area and inside the right post.
Cal Poly sophomore forward Drew Patterson (above) was turned away by Dons goalkeeper Eric Waltz three minutes later, but San Francisco doubled the lead on 39 minutes through defender Reid Roberts.
San Francisco then went up 3-0 35 seconds after the restart with forward Zane Alafranji scoring at the right post. The Dons added two more goals in the ensuing three minutes through midfielder Dominic Valdivia (48') and forward Arjan Dosanjh (49'). Midfielder Mason Dougherty rounded off San Francisco's scoring in the 70th.
