Corey Earns Big West Conference Service and Leadership Award

SAN LUIS OBISPO – Recognizing contributions in the fields of service, leadership and academics, former Cal Poly softball first baseman Kianah Corey recently earned the athletics department's first Big West Conference Service and Leadership Award.
A four-year letterwinner with 70 career appearances for the Mustang softball program, Corey (2019-22) serves as Cal Poly's student-athlete liaison with the Black Academic Excellence Center along with being a student assistant. She's the co-creator of BAEC's food pantry and jointly works as a peer counselor for Kiki's Corner, which offers Black peer group sessions and one-on-one counseling in a confidential, non-clinical space.
Corey has also served as a mediator of conversation in a 400-person webinar with the aunt and uncle of George Floyd, as well as with racial healer Dr. Annelise Singh, and participates in quarterly healing programs for Black, Indigenous, People of Color on campus.
Corey earned her bachelor's degree in June in child development and plans to begin a master's degree in psychology this fall.
First presented following the 2017-18 athletics year, Big West Service and Leadership Award winners are selected at the discretion of each member institution.
